Keyword "Cruise Destinations". Of course perps are going to go for the easy victims like people on cruise ships.

When cruise ships arrive anywhere the whole nature of the destination changes. All types of locals arrive to make a buck from the tourists; by hook or by crook.

During my travels, I've often seen nice little ports triple in population the day the cruise ship arrives. Artefact salesman, street vendors, "traditional" musicians and also pickpockets, police and perverts. When the cruise ship leaves, its back to a sleepy little port again. There is a huge transient population that follow the cruise circuit.

Anchoring your boat in an quiet bay somewhere doesn't normally attract these professionals.

Flies to fly paper. Fly paper is a wonderful thing. It draws the flies away from the places where you want to spend time....

Actually dinghy theft (the motors are the target) is prevalent in the Eastern Caribbean. You can look around the anchorage and see that almost everyone raises their dinghy out of the water each night as well as chaining the dinghy to the boat.

Boat cutters can go through most cables. With large chain the weak point is the lock.
