Willy's helm.

The "JRC" radar indicator is center and covered. Fishfinder ahead of engine controls and used as a 2nd sounder .. came w boat. Primary sounder in the corner. Old and wonderful compass that is actually very stable. I can steer a course in fairly lumpy conditions. To the left of the helm is the battery tender indicator (Zantrex). VHF on the side of the helm station. Hole under the helm needs to get covered. May put teak all over the exposed white FG helm station. Have plenty of teak.

Another pic of the helm is also of Chris expressing that she really likes her new (then) cooking stove. Three burner and oven.

I think my engine controls are bass akwards. Gear on the right and throttle on the left. I'd probably run into expensive things if I changed it.

The problem with this helm, other than outdated equipment, is the admiral can't see over it!

You mean the paper pin-up? Yes, that's the proposed Class A AIS.

Hi Peter,
Which AIS unit did you purchase?
The Comar CSA 300, the Digital Yacht CLA1000, the AMEC Camino 701, or the Furuno FA150?

Hi Peter,

I've got a Simrad NAIS400 Class B AIS currently, but am seriously considering switching to a Class A unit.

As best I can tell, the Digital Yacht CLA1000 is the Comar CSA300 with a different face plate. The manuals are identical, word for word. I've gotten good feedback on this device, so right now it's at the top of my list.

The AMEC 701 looks interesting too, but is less proven, and I'm a little worn out on experimenting with new products at the moment.

The Furuno FA150 is the most proven, but it is physically very large. The control unit is the size of a small suitcase, and I'm really running tight on space.

The tough part with all of them in interfacing them into a system that is otherwise N2K. The Class A devices are IMO compliant, so not dependent on N2K. In fact, only the AMEC even has N2K, and it is output only.

There is a whole other post that could be made about the issues of interfacing in a mixed N2K and 0183 environment.

Surprisingly understated and not a hint of ostentatiousness. A tip of my hat towards you, good Sir, and on to Infinity as well!

If memory serves me correctly, it could be the "ice burg" watch. When we cruised Tracy Arm, it was one damn cold day with a few "burgs" every so often.
