Wanted: Wanted Simrad AP16 or AP25 or AP26 display

Any of you have a Simrad AP16 display that you have replaced and would like to sell? I have been told that the AP25 or 26 will work as well. My AP16 display went out and as many of you know it is no longer supported and this system is not compatible with the newer AP 24.
Another option but cost is a killer we could update to the AP24. Have two helm stations, and I know we would need to replace the computer and compass as well. Any of you done this? Cost? Tricks, issues? Thanks is advance.

I went through this drill with my friend's AP16 system. Google pictures of the AP 25 and 26. One of them is much bigger than the 16 and the other is a handheld unit. The AP16 is sometimes available on eBay for $300-400.

But it turned out that the AP16 was not the problem. A faulty fuse holder in the course computer turned out to be the problem. It passed just enough current to register 12V on a meter, but not enough to run the electronics. Cleaning up the holder and pushing the sides together to make better contact solved the problem.

BTW, my thanks to Pete Waterson of Seacoast Marine Electronics in Oriental, NC for finding the problem. He had a good spare AP16 which he hooked up and when it didn't work either that led to the fuse holder.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I think mine is the unit. I can swap it between helm stations and the problem (most of the display not seen) follows the bad unit.

If the problem is a partial LCD then try this, but it isn't for the faint hearted. The problem may be with the LCD positioning or contacts inside the unit.

Remove the 4 screws on the back and pop off the cover. You will then see the circuit board. It is held in place with a dozen or so plastic posts that poke through holes in the circuit board and have a little "teat" on the end that protrudes through the board.

The circuit board is not designed to be removed but if you pry it off at the corners, most of the teats will break off and some will pop out and you can remove the board. The LCD is then loose inside. Check the contacts, wiggle it around so that it makes better contact. Spray with WD40 or similar.

Then to reassemble you will probably have to hold the board in place with the back pressing against it since the little posts and teats or mostly gone. So build up a few layers of duct tape or similar on the back of the board thick enough to let the back press on it and hold it in place. Then reinstall the screws and see what happens.
