Just an occurance that I thought I'd pass along. My Perkins engine also heats the electric water heater. When the engine temp started creeping up from a partially clogged sea strainer, the higher coolant temp tripped the high temp electric heater cutout. I found this 2 days later when the hot water was cold at dockside. Easy fix for there is a reset button under the heater cover.

What model water heater is installed on your boat?

My Isotemp has the same function. You have to take off the power cover, which is kind of inconvenient, but it protects the heater water from boiling off presumably.

Its a Raritan 12 Gal round tank.
Since its in a bear of a location, I drillled a 3/8 hole in the plastic cover (big enough for a non-conducting plastic pen but smaller than a finger) directly in line with the button to enable easier resets in the future.
