HI ALL, I am closing the seacocks for the winter & have a lot of green stuff on a bronze thru hull. I want to know what I clean this off with. I have a can of Boatshield to apply, but I do not know about preparing the metal first. Thanks for your help

Green stuff on bronze = okay. Leave it alone. IMHO.

Greetings,
Mr. g. Get yourself a brass brush, some vinegar and some salt. Wet the brush and the thru hull with vinegar, pour on some salt and scrub away. Rinse well with water. Alternately, Tequila, salt and lime and admire the subtle patina of the verdigris.

Toilet bowl cleaner called "the works" worked last time I tried it on some of our bronze fittings; mix w/elbow grease on application & rinse well when finished.
