Exumas for Christmas

Hi All

Newcomer here, managed to get to Stuart and take over our possession, a Lagoon 43 power cat, not everyones cup of tea I know by looking at some of the comments on here, but decision made, for us an ideal craft for two people in their later years, we wish to be able to cruise in comfort at trawler speeds, but have that little in reserve.

For the next few weeks we are prepping the boat for our journey to Antigua.

We wish to be in the Exumas by Christmas, should any other trawlers be going at that time, and do not mind a hanger on we would love to get in touch.

Welcome aboard! Not sure yet but Exumas is on the table for Christmas. If we do go it'll be around the 20th till New Years or more.

Welcome aboard. Sail cats are purchased in part because the living space is above the water line. One big negative for these is that they sail less well then monohulls. This is not an issue with power cats but the reputation of the power cats from time to time suffer because of negative comments of the sail cats.

Given the living space, increased full efficiency and initial stability of the power cats I expect we will see more of them, especially in areas where anchoring is the way of life and not marina hopping.

Welcome aboard for a first time crossing try one of the flings and go with a group while getting experience in the summer the Bahamas tourism board schedules them

This time of year I am not sure but most weekends a flotilla will go

Thanks for the welcome, it looks as if we are in for a lovely trip, been cruising for a few years now but a new area you always treat with respect, any advice would be gratefully accepted.

Just because there are a few fud-duds frequenting every marine forum... listen to em not regarding their put downs of any perfectly good boats!

Be proud of your choice in boat model/make/style; use it often and well. Then, if pride-of-boat eventually wears thin due to finding things are not exactly as desired - either alter items aboard as needed - or - sell that puppy and buy your next great boat!

Congratulations great boat but not too many trawlers will be able to keep up with you.

Hope to be travelling at 6/7 kts up to 10kts for economics, hoping for up to 2.5 to 3 per gallon.

I'll be real interested to learn your speed/mileage figures.

5 to 5.5 knots running one engine we get 2.75 nmpg

7 to 7 .5 knots running both engines we get right at 2 nmpg (7.58 knots is calced hull speed).

16 to 17 knots on full plane we get approx 1 nmpg

21 to 22 knots at WOT = OMG, don't stay there long enough to calc milage! LOL

On the hook we get GREAT nmpg. Our comfortable four seater tow behind Crestliner runabout averages 20 to 21 nmpg at 25 knot cruise. Now that's fun too!

Litres per Hour

In response to your question of fuel usage, these figures were given to me by another Lagoon owner to whom I owe my thanks to a wealth of information.

Here goes

1400-1500 rpm 7.5-8 kts 13-14 litres per hour

1800-1900 rpm 10 kts 25 litres per hour

3200 rpm 16.5 kts 57.75 per hour

Motorboats Monthly a magazine in the UK gave better figures than that, but we shall see.
