Nordhavn 64-- Holy space batman!

We toured a 64 last weekend along with a couple others with James Knight, and this 64 stood out among them all. This has to be the biggest 64' we've been in. The interior space was just astounding. We didn't get a lot of pics in the excitement but here's some.
We also toured a 62, and 78 and the 64 IMO beat them both. Although I love the APH 78.

Oliver, I was intrigued by a New Nordy 50 they had at the recent Gold Coast Marina Expo. It looked like a sort of combination of the really desirable elements from the 55 and new 60, like Twisted Tree's, in that it was about the size and layout of the 55 inside, but had the nice extended cockpit and hard-top of the 60, but it was only 50' overall. To me it would be the perfect boat - if money was no object, that is. I was not aware of this model, so it must be a new addition to the line-up, as it was completely different from the old 50, with the orthodox back-slanted slanted front windows. This one had the forward raked type like yours and all the rest.

Peter, that's 52 your probably thinking of. The 64 has been out for a fair amount of time.

They were flagging it as the Nordhavn 50 on the sign. Sadly, my iPhone battery went flat on me just as I was lining up to take a photo, so I never got one. But that's what caught my attention, was the 50' bit, because I am aware of the 52, so assumed this was not that, as I doubt they would rename a model differently just for our market. If they did that, it would be a metre length equivalent - or so you would think. However, I agree there does not appear to be any new 50 in their advertising, and it did look a lot like the 52, so maybe someone just dropped the 2 bit off..?

I tied up beside it when I got down to the Gold Coast City Marina.
When I was talking to James and Jennifer on Dirona up at Inskip Point some time ago I mentioned it to him that I had never seen a 52 on the market and so there must not be many of them around.
James said there was a fair few and a lot of them in Australia, I think it is the bigger back deck, this is what especially appeals to me on the 52 and also it is an ideal size for cruising Australia but the draught is still a bit deep.

Yes they are very nice boats, I believe now there is a 52 on the market.

Good pick-up Oliver. Beat me to it. The marvels of the iNet eh..? You can get stuff about the same expo I went to by letting your fingers doing the walking.
My grandfather would have called it unbelievabubble..!

Probably one of the babes dangling over the boat inviting lookenpeeper/tirekickers like me on board made up the sign and thought, what the hell, who'll know the difference between 50 or 52 - what's a couplafeet between friends in a 50 foot boat...and 50 looks neater...

The 52 has been around for maybe 4 years, and is a stretched 47, just like the 60 is a stretched 55. But from what I understand, the "stretch" added space to both the salon and the cockpit, where on the 60 all the new space is in the cockpit. Since the introductions of the 52 and the 60, nobody has ordered a 47 or a 55, so PAE have dropped both of the original models from the product line.

Makes sense I guess, as the overly short cockpit was the slight negative of both original models.

No the 64 was one of the updated models with bulges, just like ours on a bigger scale. Very roomy.

Which model are you saying doesn't have a real pilot house? I though they all did.

I pulled up the 52 model on their website, and it did not have a pilot house. Looked more like a yacht fisherman. It was the aft cabin layout.

Oh, yes, I see now. PAE tends to toss out a variety of ideas to see what floats (pun intended). Some get traction, some don't Since all boats are built to order, nothing actually comes to life unless someone orders it. And plenty of times, people willing to place an order want something different and it ends up turning into a new model. That was the case with the 63 and the 68, and probably others as well. There ends up being quite a bit of variation from boat to boat.

Although my boat is the "standard" layout for a 60, I'm told it's the first one they built that way. And the layout with a hallway rather than forward stairs from the PH I believe has never been built.

Getting back to the 52 aft cabin, as far as I know none have been built. But if you want one, I'm sure they would be happy to take your order

It has a true pilothouse Don, what picture are you looking at..?
