Waiting for morning, can't sleep

Left Anacortes on Sunday, cleared customs in Pender and then first night in Montague, then Nanaimo and made the run to Egmont late yesterday. I've been up since 3am, just waiting for the run up to Princess Louisa later this morning, should be absolutely spectacular.

Before we arrived yesterday in Egmont, there was a lot of chatter on the radio. Apparently a 31 Bertram hit a rock in skookumchuck. From the chatter, apparently she went down quick. Very sad. I believe all were rescued quickly.

Here is a spot if you are interested. Should be heading back out by Friday.

PLI is one of our favorite spots. Should be pretty empty this time of year. Nice weather for going there. Spectacular fjord!

Nice weather for the crossing. We took advantage of the low winds to go over to Comox for the weekend. Waterfalls should be pretty tame to nonexistent right now though. Have a good trip.

Jealous we be.

Just got back to Pender today. We spent Wednesday with three other boats on the dock. Quite a few were heading up as we headed out today. Last time I was here was in July 2010. Very little water flowing, though the water temp was 64 degrees, very nice.

Last night before leaving, I ran my generator for an hour after two days at the dock. The sailboat behiind me "raven", the nasty beotch comes up and tells me my generator was stinky. When I went to leave this morning at 8am, I cast off lines and idled my cats around 1500. Turnabout s fair play for nasty sail boaters.

Heading south, no itinerary. I'll go home when I feel the time is right.

Having dark and stormys and just noticed the sailboat beotch has showed up. This might get interesting. The general store was out of those sailboat split rings to throw on their decks. I'll have to figure out another strategy.

Oh, met a very nice gentleman from the forum.

Also, this morning I noticed I have a stowaway. I picked up a mouse in Louisa. I've set up traps for poor Louis. We'll see. Game on. Now back to a few more dark and stormys and I'm off to harass mrs. Ragbagger.

How great is that!! What a destination in excellent conditions. Don't let that blowboater ruin it. There's always that 2% AH factor where ever you go...they come in all hull shapes and colors.

BTW, we need some pics to prove this actually happened.

Racing sailboats maneuvering at a start may throw a metal objects on a competitors deck, sounds like something fell from the rig, they stop racing and go looking...

Sail boat, gives the owner automatic righteousness. You might mention the smell of candle wax and kerosene is offensive. Imagine how you would feel if you had to motor 90% of the time because the wind didn't blow or the current was too strong.

That's why i'm moving from sail to power. Last trip to Catalina was about 120nm round trip, 100% motoring, 0% sailing. We did have the main up to stabilize the boat, but it didn't help with propulsion.

I must confess I'll miss the 10 MPG.

Sail boats

Sail boats are for racing and puttering around day sailing. They make miserable Cruising platforms when compared to a good trawler. KK, and Gulfstar make trawlers on sailboat hulls that are very fuel efficient, especially when run at sail boat speeds, less than 6 knts. Most any of the round chine narrower beam hulls when driven slow, do quite well.
