Build stuff on the beach, storms will tear it up!!! We learn this lesson often in NC, less often elsewhere.

Considering how the last time it happened was over 20 years ago, there is no "lesson" to be learned.

Ancora,

I recognize the Avalon photos but do you know where the other photos were taken?

The damaged pier is at White's Point. The last report we got was that all the moorings in Avalon are back in their proper position which is good news as we are heading there on the 15th with our first stop being Oceanside Y.C. and then across to Avalon for a week.

What does that mean? So storms tear things up only once every 20yrs or so? Still means that it happens, should be no surprise.

Storms are no surprise in our neck of the palm trees. We've adapted, and can rebuild pretty darn fast.ImageUploadedByTrawler Forum1410321684.352113.jpg

I'm familiar with White's Landing and have to ask: how the heck did you get ashore? Just about the only gently sloping beach on the island is hazardous to land on with a 1 ft chop. What did the Balboa YC end of the cove look like.

We got these pictures from some people who were there at the time.
