What are your opinions on the top 3 factory trawler builders over the past 30 years. Mid 30' to mid 40' range.

Please provide your definition of a "Trawler"??
There are many fine build boats that may rank in the Top Three Category. However... some TF Members would not classify those boats as "Trawlers", others would.

While I don't agree than ANY recreational cruising boat is a "trawler," (trawlers are fishing boats), in my opinion the three most consistently high quality production power cruising boats of the makes I am familiar with are (in no particular order):
Fleming
Grand Banks/Eastbay
Tollycraft
Very close behind these are:
Nordhavn
Hatteras
Krogen
Nordic Tug
Rozema
Sunfjord
Delta
Fleming

Thanks. I intentionally left my querry vague. It can be anything that you consider a "recreational trawler".

Mid 30's - 40' range knocks out some of the above named marquees, Fleming and Dashew FPB for sure. Island Gypsy and Grand Banks tend to be well cared for though like any boat can be found neglected. Nordic and American Tugs are two more that generally tend to be well cared for. Hatteras made some nice boats in that size range too, the 42 LRC comes to mind. Mainship can be good or not so good in that size range, I've seen some stunning and some that are really tore up.
Very "generally speaking" the more expensive they start out life the more likely they've been owned by loving and knowledgable owners. A general price range would help.

I think you're safe, Marin. He says MID-30 to MID-40.
Hmmm... is "6" considered mid? If so, then there's the GB36/42/46, the Eastbay 38 and (I think) 40 or 42, the Krogen 37/42, and a whole bunch of Tollycrafts. So I guess I'm painting within the lines now?

Top 3 for what? And by what criteria? Until we know that, we are wasting both your and our time. Or is this just one of those recreational, time wasters (and I am good at those!) ?

At least on this forum, all definitions are up for debate. The word "top" could mean any number of things to different people. Then there's the word "trawler" and the numerous ways we define that. To new posters, it certainly seems like some people are cocked and loaded to contribute any conflict they can.

one of the posts which did not include the Captains own make / model (hope I am not assuming too much with Northern Spy )So if the question were asked more to the tune of the three (or four or five) recreational trawlers 30'-40' (loosely defined as we know on this Board) that DID NOT INCLUDE your current or prior boat, how would you answer?
Oh yeah, this is all idle time killing with no purpose other than amusement.
