Engine overrevving

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
That's not much to go on.

That's a pretty slim description !
Maybe you could break out and give us a fuller explanation.
In return we'll give you a full reply.

What are you doing with the throttle and transmission when it over revs?IS it actually over revving,or the rpms surging without touching the controls?

I'll bite.

Possible solutions

1) Put it in gear
2) Increase size/pitch of prop
3) Replace prop which has fallen off (or been stolen)
4) Stop spraying aerostart.
5) Repair sheared off shaft coupling
6) Place boat in water

Thus far replies are dead on.

Just so you all know (and not think the OP was deliberately being hard to get along with) he originally posted a fairly lengthy explanation of the symptoms, then changed his mind and edited it out. I would surmise that what he really wanted to do at that point was to delete the post entirely, but didn't have a way to do it.

I would further surmise that he either decided not to ask for help, or else solved the problem on his own.

Just saying.
