Ideal windlass/wildcat info

Does any have any info on this bad mamajamma ?

I have the same windlass. I think I have the info you need. Let me check when I get home. Ideal complete rebuilt mine last year.

Many times what chain the wildcat is designed to handle is stamped on the wildcat it's self.

Their website has quite a lot of info tucked away in it, not all that intuitive to find it. Its worth systematically going through the lot! But for your immediate needs:

Go to the 'Service Info' tab and you will then see under 'Size 1' that CWM is listed, click on it to get more details such as some instructions.

Your wildcat will have a code (letters/numbers or just numbers) stamped on the inside, but not as deep as where the chain runs. Once you have that, go back to the website and click on the FAQ tab. Then scroll down a bit and you will find a table. You should find your wildcat number in it.

Actually, now that I look, the manual is online as are the instructions for that model , and how to identify what model you have and what chain fits in the gypsy. See FAQs for the latter and then Service Info for the latter. But call them anyway and make their acquaintance.

You have a model CWM which later became the model H1F.

From the FAQ page:

The chain size and type is very specific to the different wildcats. All models are available for many different chain sizes and types. The fit of the chain to the wildcat is critical. Our wildcats have a number cast into them that identifies what size and type chain your wildcat will accept. To find this number look in the flat spaces between the ribs in the wildcat. This is the area where the chain rides. Measure the diameter of your wildcat and refer to the chart below for identification. If you cannot find a number or if it is not listed below, please call the factory. 401-1884-2550

I still can't see the pages correctly. the lines a jumbled and not loading..... I believe the issue is on my end... Lack of bandwidth

Electro. We have the same windlass. The model is CWM. It looks like it's identical to mine. Mine has 5/16" HT chain. I could not find any markings on mine to indicate the chain size. You would need to talk to Cliffe at Ideal about the various chain options.

I replaced the motor two years ago. That was an easy swap.

The cost for that was $750. That included a new gear on the motor shaft.

About a year later, we sent it off to Cliffe and had the whole thing rebuilt.

It's probably something I could have done myself but we live some distance from the boat and it was easier to just have them do it. The cost was in the $700 range for parts, labor, and shipping.

I was worried about the capacity of the windlass. We have a 60lb anchor and 300 feet of chain. Cliffe suggested that was more than likely fine, but would recommend a bigger model if they were selling a new one to me.

I PM'd you a link to the manuals. I uploaded them to dropbox.

Cliffe is very helpful. Their hours are somewhat limited though. I seem to remember I had to call them before noon PST or they were gone for the day.
