For a boat assembly shop the mold cost is a big expense.

With the downside of operating a SD boat at FD, Trawler Crawler, speeds not immediately visible to new customers the choice is for the SD hull.

By selecting different power levels the assembler can claim what ever he wished in terms of SD speed boat or FD cruiser.

Salt water is indeed denser than fresh by about 2.5%.

Of course cold water is also denser than hot so you boat will displace even less volume of water at near freezing than in mid summer by about 1%

If you get the water cold enough, the boat darn near doesn't displace any water...

The exception would be an I/O (stern drive) but few trawlers have these.

There is a huge difference. You will never hear of a fresh water boat having to cut out corroded fuel tanks (frequently discussed on this forum), discard corroded air conditioners, corroded hydraulic pumps or replace corroded wiring.
