Ready to roll downhill in 164 elbow curves

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Fernando, this voyage is epic. The only appropriate way to conclude will have to be a photograph of you and your bride smiling with pride on the fruit of your labor floating in the harbor. From my point of view boats are never as beautiful as when their owners are aboard enjoying them.

Continued best of luck to you both.

I have to say that I've had many creations that I had to haul places, and I never trusted anyone but myself to do it. I can't imagine what it must be like to have such a precious cargo and then have to trust someone else to treat it the way you would. I gotta hand it to ya! Something like that going down the road must be getting lots of attention.

Very much attention indeed.
Out of the Highway, we cannot ride during daylight.
We cannot ride during the weekends
We crossed all the good roads so far and now we are at the top of the mountain ready to go downhill to the beach.
Now it is the hard part and it starts either tonight or tomorrow night, depends on the highway patrol. It’s only 45 miles in controlled speed but the road is to narrow and there are 164 curves. In some places the truck will have to maneuver back and forward to be able to turn. I am sure that whatever starts by night, ends early in the morning.
After arriving, I’ll be mounting the flybridge, rigging the mast and several other small things. So, between 15th and 18th of July she will splash.

However, we did not wanted to assist the loading operations. We were a phone call away.
During the unloading we will be doing some shopping. My heart cannot handle such tension and I am paying a lot of money for transport and insurance

We are already in the marina spending the weekend. As you can see, it’s raining….

Go from
Campinas, SP Brasil
To
Ubatuba, Sp Brasil

Enjoy

What a trip! I understand why you want to avoid the congestion of Sao Paolo. Will the home port be way north in Salvador?

Wow-Fernando-I did not realize you were so far from the coast to start with. I followed that road into Ubatuba on Google Earth, and I do not envy you. I don't think I could stand the tension after all the work you have out in. Best of luck and my best wishes are with you (as are all here as well).

Show us some pictures of the great result!

As I work in the oil industry in a rotation system, this was the only guy with well-known quality assured work that accepted to work with me under my proposed conditions.
He is very good with wood, he has its own wood of top quality and he likes non-conventional boat design. He made the boat structure based on a hull design that I bought from a Brazilian naval architect; I changed the boat length and living quarters and made the engineering. I am not a carpenter nor did I have the time to build everything on my own. Apart from that he would stop from working in my boat when the money was short. In 2009 and 2010 we barely did anything on the boat. Yet that was part of the deal.
During that time he worked in other boats.
Why I did this? Because I wanted a trawler just like the ones my Granddad use to build when I was born, a heavy displacement boat for cruising, literally fit for my purposes, and that does not exist in Brazil. It has to be made on order. There are shipyards that work on order but they do not stop when you do not have money, they don’t have passion for their work.
This people who help me build my boat, they are unique in the sense on how they approach their work. That is hard to find and, in my particular case, I could only find it inside the country.
Originally, my boat can be considered a wood epoxy, but it isn’t. What I really have is a double hull wood/FG. The only resin used to construct my boat was epoxy resin. The thickness of my hull goes from 4 ¾” laminated W / 1” FG on keel to 1” W/ ¾” FG in the thinnest part of the hull. Where would I get such robust structure?
Around the building site, within less than 15 miles, there is a FG factory with all kinds of math, woven, resins, fills, etc. The wood suppliers are next door. The stainless steel metallurgies are around here. The builder of the propeller and power section is at walking distance, per say.
The area is considered the best place in Brazil to find good professionals in all fields
As I was not being present every time, I had to have confidence that my boat for which I was putting all I have saved in 34 years of work, was going to be built properly. That’s why I ended up so far inland and so far from home!

She is gorgeous... and I too look forward to seeing her where she belongs: afloat, with you and your bride at the helm. Enjoy and thanks for letting us share your journey. She is an amazing boat.

Just so you understand why this move is worthy of its own thread, check out this video of someone driving their car down the very same road;

YIKES!!!!!

Fernando - I hope you write a book on this! :thumb:

How incredibly exciting and, at the same time, nerve-wracking this must be for you, Fernando. Please keep us posted . I hope you get a video of the splash. Then I'll raise my glass toward toward Brazil and toast your incredible accomplishment!

Godspeed!

I know the feeling, and keeping fingers crossed for you.

Fernando-thanks for the explanation. You have truly built your boat your way! It sure looks like all your extraordinary efforts were worthwhile!

Fernando, I hope your driver was not listening to the futbol match on the radio as he was driving! I can only imagine the state of things in Brazil today!

My condolences to Fernando and all the Brazilian soccer fans (including the truck driver) on their tragic loss yesterday.

Ok, now that that little distraction is out of the way let's get this puppy in the water!

Amazing

keep sharing the adventure!!!

About the soccer

Mr. Portuguese,
As if the ordinary boating that many of us do is not already an adventure, your build and launch define epic and has been inspiring to follow.

The People will win greatly. Later down on 2014 I will explain..

If I understand your comment above, I may tend to agree that if a down turn in the mood results in some changes in the politics later this year, the trajectory of your country may benefit.

I am rooting for you on all accounts. Good luck, cannot wait to see her wet.

That's correct. Had we won the World Cup, we would go back to socialism with open doors to robbery and corruption. We need to grow as a country and we need to get educated the hard way. This defeat is just part of the learning process.

I hope!

Is this an exciting delivery or what? Epic, indeed. Youdaman Fernandino,:thumb:

The widow of my uncle is from Maceio, she sent me this picture a couple of months ago.
"2014 the year of change". The guy, who looks pregnant, is saying "Here is my vote" to President Dilma Rousseff.

Expected performance @ 1800 rpm - 6.4 knots burning 2.68 GPH
Real Performance with full tanks @ 1800 rpm - 7.8 knots burning 2.42 GPM
