Well I wasn't going north for the winter this year so I decided to carry out all my minor servicing and some major refit work.
Stripped out the fwd cabin and converted it to a "Ships office" after 15 years with the lap top on the saloon table I now have a dedicated space to work , with chart drawer ,file cabinet etc.
The original cabin had a very short bunk a wash basin and a load of storage, still have a lot of the storage plus the extras.
I have also done my main and aux engine services, painted the Wheelhouse top, fitted a new larger Victron Inverter/Charger, overhauled my dory and the sit on kyak, fitted a new Excel anchor, modified the hawse pipe and next will fit a couple of 95 watt*solar panels for a little extra sun power for when on the hook.
New upholstery is now being made for the aft frig boxes, salon bench seat and the pilot seat.
The old girl doesn't know herself

Now off to the North West shelf for 5 weeks work to pay for it all.
When I come home I hope to have a short trip north to Fraser Island for a bit of fishing, whale watching and anchor testing.
After that I hope to head south to Tasmania and*attend the Wooden Boat festival held in Hobart every 2 years, this will be Feb 2011.
A long trip but if it comes off should be a bit of an adventure.

I have attached a couple of befor and after photos of the cabin improvements

Looks great! There's something satisfying about working on boats.
Enjoy.

Yes, looks great Benn. Hey what period of time will you be stationed at your marine then over the next 3 months? I'm starting to wonder about maybe when we have our group get-together, we might, (if it was ok with you), make it at your place. Ted's in Noosa, Allan is in the Harvey Bay area, so Steve Wayne and I would just have to nick up from Brissy - you're sort of in the middle. What say you on that?

Cool,
lets have a party.
It's at your house.

I get home from the West on the 4 th Sept will be home in Mooloolaba for at least a week after that and hopefully away up at Fraser Is from about the 11 the 12 th for 10 days, after that home for at least a month.
Yep I'm good for my place for a meet and stay if required

Benn

Very NICE Benn,

Nice to see a good wood boat. Marin thinks I should get a bigger boat to carry my ground tackle and I'm thinkin your's looks just fine.
Saw a boat for sale w a Bedford engine (rather like a GM). Anybody know about them? This one's 300 cu in.

Eric

Eric,
Bedfords were a good Pommie truck and bus maker with their own engines. Should imagine the engine would be pretty old but reliable.
Bedford was to the Poms what GM is to the Yanks.

Ok, Benn, so if I've got this right, you're home for a month from about the 22nd Sept?* That could work.....I'll sound out the other guys.* Last time we got together we went out for a lunch trip on Waynes Clipper 40.* Would you be up for a trip out with 4-5 other skippers...not too intimidating.....?* Oh, and we might have skipperdude along by the sound of it - or was he just bluffing?* Seriously tho, if any of you Us/Canadian/Alaskan guys are heading downunder in the Queensland direction, we could arrange something, I'm sure.......

Dudes and Dudettes,
I was only kidding.
But it has been a lifelong dream to some day visit down under.
I do have a piece of New Zeland. I sold an outboard shifter to a guy there. It got lost in the mail and showed up about 6 months later. I had already refunded the money so I asked him to send me a stone off the beach in exchange. He did. It now sits on my book shelf with a little sign that says please return.

One of these days.

It's on the bucket list.

*Father in law made a fortune shipping container loads of "running takeout"*Bedford engines from UK to HK to power junks a few decades back. They are probably still running.
