Keep this list and send a copy to your senior friends and relatives.

As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 get 10% off everything on the menu, every day. Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too. This incident prompted me to do some research , and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50.
This list may not only be useful for you, but for your friends and family too.

That's fantastic, thanks so much for posting all that (52 here now) - but over my dead body (literally) will I ever ask for a senior discount. The first time I ask for one I might as well buy turquoise blue pants hiked halfway up my chest, white shoes, giant Larry King glasses, drive with my turn signal on for 50 miles, and start eating oatmeal at Shady Pines retirement community in Boca Raton. But that is very useful info, thanks.

If you happen to be an NRA member check out their website for a lengthy list of discounts on rental cars, hotels and lots of other places.

Kthoennes, I love asking for my senior discount. I lived over 66 years to get to this stage and I'm going to take every discount I can get. And no, I don't have turquoise pants, white shoes or any of those other things you mentioned. I also usually drive a bit faster than the speed limit, don't leave my turn signal on and hate oatmeal.

No Shady Pines for this guy. I'm too damn busy having fun in my life to park my butt in a retirement center!

Not trying to disrespect the elderly but why not offer discounts to those of us still up the uphill side of life? you all have earned your money, paid the mortgage off, boat paid in full, kids out of the house. how about something for us 30somethigns? All of us who still have all those bills plus a lifetime of student loans.

just asking...

BTW that was only about half serious.

I wore white socks with sandals the other day, does that count as old?

Although I haven't hit sixty yet, I already do some of those things (maybe not the oatmeal). When I become a fully fledged senior, I'll be an embarrassment to be around and love every minute of it.

A large proportion of "older people" are living on Social Security. That's quite a bit less than most working people earn. When I retired, my "earned" income dropped 45%. With the kids out of college and the home mortgage paid off, I've been able to maintain my standard of living, at least so far. I've saved perhaps $50 a year from senior discounts.

And skinny, pastey white legs enhance that look with black socks (uh oh, I better get outside and get some sun. These legs look like that cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn - a pop culture reference that only geezers would get.)

Auscan, I like your attitude!

AndyG and NS, please resolve this difference of opinions. I need to know.

Black socks are out for sure.

The reason I wear socks with my sandals is that I'm a bee keeper and the ladies would sting my feet if it wasn't for the heavy white socks.

Wait a minute, aren't all bee keepers old?

Parks, I will be expecting my senior discount rebate check.:D

I think I'm having a senior moment. Don who?

Did you ever get that dinghy lift installed?

It is mounted on the platform. I had to leave before finishing to get my son home. Just lack 2 diagonal braces at the top. I plan to get those on in about 10 days. Then take a little cruise to spend some time on the hook.
