Our Norcold machine works good but has to be constantly defrosted. A temp gun check shows no leaks and a new door seal has not helped.

Any ideas?

What happens when you reduce the temperature setting? I don't have that problem with my DE0061T unit in my Mainship. It runs off of 12VDC from the beginning of the season until December when the boat gets hauled. My unit was installed in 2008.

What is the pressure in the system?
If you have no freon in the system you will also find no leak. ;)

If its inside the fridge , moist air is getting in from somewhere.

Dismount the box , put a lantern inside and turn out the lights some night.

Gee. . . What an coincidental post to open this morning?

Just arrived back at my slip yesterday evening and noted that the fridge in salon sounded much louder than normal. Opened the door and a very strange odor emitted, something between a burning and chemical smell. Slid out the catch tray under the freezer compartment and it contained a couple of ounces of a light yellow oily liquid (compressor oil I believe).

So I'm on the hunt for a replacement combo fridge. Does anybody have any recommendations? This is a double door fridge /freezer, built into a cabinet and My first choice is a Novakool, But I recall they didn't make that size.

Current unit is Norcold DE728 and the opening is roughly 24" x 51". It can be an inch or so smaller but not larger.

Edelweiss, that doesn't sound good at all. What year is your Norcold?
I'm curious.
Thanks,
Bill

Fridges burn far more juice than they should if simply stuffed into a cabinet box.

The lack of proper ventilation rasieses the fridge exterior temp, and the freon also gets lousey cooling.

The more modern fridges have a blower under the unit to dump all the heated air into the cabin.

A far better idea than a jury rig with computer DC fans and a thermo switch on the freon line, and holes chopped in the boat.

If no performance should also check the fan. this is sometimes covered on the surface with dirt and dust and transports the air is not enough.
Otherwise, check the pressure and you know if freon is missing.
Often you get the new freezer is not in the same dimensions and to repair the System is the better solution.
