Lavac

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

I had a Lavac Zenith on a Nicholson 35 sailboat. It was original equipment and was very reliable. The only service I ever performed was rebuilding the pump one time. The holding tank was below the level of the pump and never had any backflow problems.

That said, I have heard of other Lavac owners who have had chronic problems with installations where the holding tanks were above the level of the head and pump. They were plagued with backflow problems which were hard to live with.

It seems the problem occurs when the valves in the pump are exposed to constant pressure of a large quantity of liquid in the lines above the level of the pump - high head pressure.

Hope this helps.

We had friends with one on their Pearson 34. Not real guest user friendly. Don't ask. It's interesting that it is now sold through a mail forwarding service.

It's time for me to shop for a new toilet. Anybody used a Lavac?

Lavac Marine Toilets

Installed one new on the sailboat when we were fitting it out for cruising (1995). It was still there and still working just fine and dandy when I sold the sailboat in 2012 and moved up (?) to a trawler. Never had any problems with the Lavac itself.

As it turns out, I saw a Lavac at Fisheries Supply today. I ended up getting one heck of a deal on a Masterflush, paid less than their cost, last one in the store. :thumb:

Weird toilet but the sailors seem to love them. I used to sell the replacement seals for the toilet seat but they didn't sell well. Maybe there weren't many Lavacs in my area or maybe they didn't go bad often.

I LOVE!!! the Lavac , but its British and made by ironmongers , so the pump leaves something to be desired.

I used a WWII monel bowl and 2 inch Bronze Edison when stealing the concept.

Narry a hassle with human or feline waste in decades.

Won a few cases of beer by demonstrating it eating a tie.

My unit , at a gallon a stroke is not friendly to most holding tank sizing..

Cat WASTE , not a wasted cat!

We taught the cat to use the head (couldnt flush it tho) to get rid of the cat box.
