Ebbtide has a Groco AGR-1000 strainer for the raw water cooling. The plug for the strainer cup was dripping so I reached down to tighten it up....off it comes in my hand! Easy fix, walk over to Redden and get a new plug. Get back and it's the wrong one. Mine is a pre 1988. Back to Redden for the correct one. Problem solved.
Decided it was a good time to inspect the hoses and found this:
The thru hull was 11/4" and the fitting on the strainer was 1". Rather than change the fitting at the strainer the PO used a barbless plumbing reducer and a short piece of 1 1/4" hose! Back to Redden for the proper fitting at the strainer and a new piece of hose. Problem solved.
On a roll now so what the heck why not adjust the valves? Off comes the valve cover, torque the head bolts and check the valve lash.
Found 4 valves a bit on the tight side and corrected that. Runs a bit smoother now! Problem solved.
Who knows what I may find tomorrow during battery maintenance!
