I just purchased a 1988 Californian 45 and joined this forum. I would like to make contact with other owners with this type of boat. Over the next 1-2 years my wife and I want to make a number of changes and upgrades to the vessel. We have been full-time live-aboard cruisers (east cost and Bahamas) for 4 years and are transitioning from a sailboat to this floating condo. We like to be on the hook and mooring balls, so many of the upgrades will be to become more shore power/generator independent so we can be in remote areas for several months without shore power or using the generator. Also, it is an old boat and many of the systems are no longer supported by the original manufacturer and many of the items, like hoses, need replacing, and the documentation for the boat is slim-to-none.

Welcome aboard!:thumb: What's wrong with using the genny?

Welcome, enjoy the forum. There is certainly something on here for everyone.

Welcome aboard:thumb:

Power boats are a different life style and in your size of boat you will appreciate having that generator. You only have to run it when it's needed. :socool:

Welcome aboard, I too own a Californian but mine is the 48 version. You will be completely happy with it. They are very solid good boats. I may be able to help with some of your questions. What power plants do you have? If it's the Detroits your going to love it. They are extremely miserly in there fuel consumption but have enough ummpphh to get that boat up on plane quickly and stay there all day. Again hit me up for any questions, I been all through my boat since I've owned it.

Well on some long boring runs, I'll kick her up to 16 kts or so. Blows out the turbos, even at that speed I'm only burning around 18 gallons an hour. I know for some of you that's about 9x what you all burn, but all considering I can live with that. Now at 8 kts I'm burning less than 7gph so I am very happy with that.
