Replaced my port side through the bulkhead S.S. exhaust elbow with a filament wound fiberglass elbow. The last time I took out the S.S. elbow to be welded (bad idea) I installed Nut Serts in the mounting holes, so I would not have to deal with washers and nuts. Worked out well, as I was able to use screws to jack out the elbow from the 3 1/2" exhaust hose.

Interesting. How are you going to deal with the flange?

Nosey, I know, but where are you and what is your boat?

My boat is in San Diego and it is a 36' 1986 sundeck Nova. I am pondering whether or not I need a flange to keep the elbow from backing out due to exhaust pressure. The exhaust has a four foot run to the lift muffler and then a three foot run to the elbow. The engine is rated at 136 H.P. and I run at half power to achieve cruise speed. May not need a "kicker" as we say in the trade.
