Am looking at trawlers and one memtioned a "slow idle cruise electronics option" on the diesel. Any information on this system would be appreciated.

Maybe a trolling valve on the transmission? Otherwise i have no idea.

Must be this (below) which is listed under Cummins MecCrusier engine spec's that he's referring to. . . . way to new for my knowledge base?

Sea Cruise Package: Includes backup throttle, digital
interface, engine synchronization, cruise control, idle
speed control and slow idle.

From what I've seen "slow idle" is the option that drops idle RPMs from 600 to 550 (on Cummins QSC 500s). This allows smoother shifting while docking and obviously travel a bit slower in close quarters.

Trolling valves is something different. The name kind of speaks for itself. The RPMs don't change, but the transmission ratio changes and the props spin slower allowing cruise much slower which is adequate for fishing.

Great Reply

Alex F,

Thanks for the info. Makes sense on a 42 ft trawler.
