Folks, keep this circulating. It is very well stated. Maybe it will end up in the e-mails of some of our "duly elected' and their staff (they never read anything) will clue them in on how Americans feel.

While I do not consider myself a conservative across the board I am conservative when it comes to fiscal policy. The point about letting people who's success is dependent upon their financial acumen run the government is well taken. Unfortunately most successful businessmen would have no interest in screwing around with the hassles that come with government service, where you have to respond in a PC manner to every whiner that crosses your threshold. But sometimes I think that the requirement for being a successful politician is that you are or would be a total failure as a businessman.

Likewise the notion that the only thing government can run successfully is national defense. Government (and not just the US government) has a centuries-old history of totally mismanaging everything they take on other then defense. Health care, transportation, mail delivery, railroads, education*you name it, government will make it the most inefficient, ineffective money pit possible.

I will grant that government has a role in reguating things. Human nature being what it is, if left to their own devices a lot of businesses would cut whatever corners they could to increase profits. So somebody has to make sure the meat isn't tainted and the medicine is within specs and the planes, trains, and automobiles are safe, and government is probably the best vehicle for this if they do it right. But as soon as they start thinking they can actually produce the meat and the medicine and run the trains, they fail miserably. Probably for the reason I stated above--- politicians by their nature are failed businessmen.

Let me get this straight. Were going to be gifted with a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesnt understand it, passed by a Congress that hasnt read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president who also hasnt read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didnt pay his taxes, to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country thats broke. What the hell could possibly go wrong? -origin unknown

Someone just passed this on to me and it seemed germane to this thread so I'm posting it even though I tend toward the liberal or independent side of politics.

"THE ANT AND THE GRASSHOPPER

Two Different Versions.................

OLD VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..

Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

MODERN VERSION
:

The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.

CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast.

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green.'

Acorn stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing,'We shall overcome.' Rev. Jeremiah Wright then has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.

Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.

Finally, the EEOC adopts the Economic Equity & Anti-Ant Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.

The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.

The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.

MORAL OF THE STORY:

Be careful how you vote.

I've sent this to you because I believe that you are an ant & not a grasshopper! Make sure that you pass this on to other ants. Don't bother sending it on to any grasshoppers because they wouldn't understand it, anyway."

If you are A liberal/ Progressive
Who's side are you on?**The ant or the grasshopper. If you are as you say. Why would you post such an item? Is it sarcasm? Or perhaps you are not as you say.
Because that *looks to be the way this country is headed.

Moral of the story: If in doubt, ask the people of Detroit. Lots of grasshoppers, few ants.

The usual Gov answer is first "Currency Controls",

Then restrictions on actual travel.

You guys seem to enjoy being paranoid. Believe it - the sky is not going to fall. Try to be glass half full people instead of half empty - life is more fun that way.

"You guys seem to enjoy being paranoid."

A paranoid is an individual that is a survivor.

The Victims Lobby thinks theft can go on forever,

what they will do when the Free Lunch is canceled is open to speculation.

Marshal Law?

You got that right Peter.*

"Just because your paranoid, it doesn't mean they aren't out to get you."

OK guys things are bad in the US of A. They are trying to control your guns, give you National Medicare and get your financial system back up and running.

Give the place a miss, move down here to Australia, we have gun control, medicare and our financial system did not suffer as much thru the GFC, thru a lot of help from the Government with recovery packages, not spent on Executive salaries.

We have year round boating and fishing and all is well with the world.

Things ain't so bad.
