Mate,
Don't know any in Sydney but know a couple in Brisbane.
I will ask around and get back to you with any good info asap.
What have you got a 6LXB ?
Have you got a workshop manual?
Cheers
Benn

OK here is a couple of options
1. There was a guy by the name of Peter Roberts in the west of Sydney buy my contact is not sure if he is still around or if his son carried on with the business.

2. Contact Russel Tyler at Cottage Point Boat Shed as he may know someone down there, as Skomer which has a 6L3B is in that area.

3. PM Eagle419, He owns Flemingo which has a 6LXB and is sure to have a decent Gardner mechanic.
Cheers

Great response there Benn. That's what this forum is al about. That should give adorochelle a kick-start.
Hey, how's the sailing/paravaning thing going - are you there yet..?

You should be ok from Benn`s advice, just in case, Alan Clark at Balmain Marina is senior in years, knows his stuff, and has a strong reputation for competence. Calls himself Birchgrove Yacht Service. His employed mechanic, Tom, is good too. I can`t say he has Gardner experience but he`s old enough to know Gardners, or might know someone who does. He can be slow at times getting onto a job. Phone 0424735164/98106267.

Ive got a 6LXC in NightinGayle which is pretty much a 6LXB with a bit more grunt. I do have acrobat copies of the operating and maintenance manual for that family of engines if you are interested. PM me and I will email them to you.

Regarding a Gardner mechanic I'm not sure I can help. My knowledge is only for Victoria around Gippsland Lakes. However if you are desperate I can provide contact details if you wish.
Cheers
Janis

Peter,
Everything is standing still at present.
I am in Port Hedland playing tuggies to raise money for all my expenses of the past 6 months.
The trip north from the Gold Coast was good but didn't use sails or paravanes, calm seas and northlies.
The Boss lady will be in Casablanca when I get home so I am packing up and weather permitting will be heading north to Mackay via Swains Reef on approx Nov 7 th.
On this trip I hope to give all systems a good work out and try both sets of fish and see which set I will use.
I am also going to switch between chain and Dynex rope to run them and see which I prefer.
All going well I will have it sorted by Mackay.
Going to leave the boat up there for a while and cruise the north Islands for a while.
Janis there are a couple of good web sites in the UK for LX series manuals and info.
The Gardner Enthusiasts web page is another good source of info.
By the way if you are ever heading north I would love to see that 6LXC in the Tradewinds.

Cheers
Benn

Hello Adorochelle, I’ve been out of the country and have just caught up with this thread.
For specific Gardner spares and expertise, I called Kevin from Mainline Diesel in Queensland because he did major work for the previous two owners and ‘knows’ my 6lxb.
Kevin will travel, so depending on the problem, it might be worth the expense of flying him down.

The other Brisbane Gardner bloke also has good reputation but I don’t know if he travels - Benn will know.

I couldn’t find any Gardner specialists in Sydney who match the experience level of the Brisbane blokes, but for routine issues I’m sure competent local mechanics could do most jobs. After all, there are plenty of old Gardners still going strong around Sydney.

Please feel free to PM me to discuss.
John

Here`s a thought, try visiting boats at the Sydney Fish Markets. You have to pass a gate to reach the boats but there are usually crew around, someone may have the answer or point you in the right direction.

gardner

Thankyou for the great replys it will be great help I still have not serviced my engine yet but I think mainline in qld sounds good, must talk to Kevin.

Gardner Experts,
Mainline as mentioned,
Gary Btyant,
07 3803 5999
0402 267 987
Gary is brilliant but hard to get hold of and very busy he is my age but his 3 sons work for him and are all VG diesel mechanics.

Jeff Luthewaite a compatriot of Gary
07 5524 7192
Jeff carries plenty of spares and filters etc
A good man to do business with.
I recently got a spare starter motor from him, less than half the price that Mainline wanted.

Yes, Kev from Mainline Diesel in Brisbane is good and he will travel, he did worn on my 6LKDT.
He did his apprenticeship with Gardner in England. You pay for what you get and he has the skills and knowledge.
Cheers.
