Marathon Fl Marinas

Good morning! Would any of you give us some advice on marinas in Marathon, Fl. ? We are planning to head south next winter so getting as much research done ahead of time. Thanks so much for the help many of you have provided to our posts thus far!

Been quite a while since I was there as a cruiser, but my understanding is that the City Marina has lots of moorings. Have to dinghy, of course, but it is a very protected area. If you need shore power, or are addicted to the sound of boom boxes, then it has been so long since I was there that I would not want to hazard a guess.

If you have a yacht club membership, the Marathon YC is a friendly, reasonable place. They are on the Florida Bay side along with Keys Fishery Marina and Faro Blanco. Keys Fishery has a good restaurant and sells fresh seafood.

Sully, I have found that Keys Fishery has about the best fuel prices in Marathon. It's where the commercial boats go.

In 2010 we spent a week at the Marathon marina at the entrance of the harbor it was nice with a good group of cruisers in there. several restaurants and bars not too far.

Not trying to be a smart ass, but if you're in North America, it might behoove you to jump on Priceline.com and take a trip down there first. Look around and draw your own conclusions. They have pretty good Vacation Packages on Priceline. It's certainly cheaper than appearing by boat in person and being disappointed. Things can change down there pretty fast if new developers come in or Feds seize Marinas, etc. It's the Keys. Personally I recommend any place that can catch a breeze down there, which the harbor doesn't, being surrounded by land. Faro Blanco is long closed, and torn down.
