This was taken at about 11:00 pm

It doesn't get very dark up here in Alaska during the summer.

You really got to stay up to see the sun set.

Wow!! Talk about thread creep! You can't fool me...this fails the sunrise/sunset litmus paper test. "If it ain't got a sun, it ain't no fun!"

(Great shot, though...wish it was my boat.)

Well, we need a clear definition of "sunrise" then!

Is it when the sun clears the horizon, or in a northern BC context, is it when the sun clears the mountains east of wherever you might be anchored and the suns rays strike your location for the first time that day?

I believe it's the latter (since the horizon can't be seen in Kitimat where I'm from because of the surrounding mountains) and why I posted the third photo...clear evidence that this scene did indeed occur precisely at the moment of "sunrise" at this location;

Ahhhh, maybe rather than saying sunrise - a better term would simply be sun-up in your parts! :whistling: :D

Does any of it really matter?

Yo bb – I Twas Just funnen, don't cha know? Yuck, yuck... and, all that big smile stuff! :D

Few items here on TF are actually really very important. In the grand scheme o' things what we chat on about boating in these threads is virtually meaningless. Only reason for this forum and others similar is for the continued amusement (and a bit of pleasure-boat-learning too) of us super lucky people who have been graced with the capability and position in life to termed as and to practice as “Pleasure Boaters”. Man... I would not trade holding that moniker for anything else in my pleasure-life that I have ever seen or experienced. :thumb: :speed boat:

Ranges of humor and its myriad of capabilities is one of the several items that places we human’s at top of the pack! And, it’s an extremely important one – at that! ;)

Actually I was more or less responding to MurrayM's statement...

If I wore a kilt, that would be sooner on a windy day, right?

I've spent a few months in Kitamat. That is a sunrise.
