On the Boat Again...

Sorry for the corny Willie Nelson title reference but it just feels great to be on the boat again. Been a long month.

Sipping a Sam Adams while our sons drive and navigate to our chosen anchorage is really why we do this stuff.

Hope your weekend turns out as well as it has started! Down to the boat tomorrow for me, and just some busy work to do on it. But that is what keeps me going when the night seems darkest. And any Willie reference is always good!

Sounds perfect! We'll try for some of the same (sans the sons and Sam Adams!) this weekend. Looking for a nice quiet anchorage away from it all...know of any? ;-)

This one seems to be doing fine right now. Top of Franks Tract near the Y.

The Coot is still at the KKMI boatyard (touch-up painting still in-progress), but we plan to spend Sunday afternoon on her, at the dock.

Sam Adams is a beer brewer. They fall into the smaller than mega brewers (Miller, Budweiser, etc.) and larger than craft brewers catagory. Most educated beer drinkers would put them above the mega brewers for quality and taste, but not in the same category as a quality craft brewers.

Hej! I've got a chart here showing Mildred Island is dry land! (The decades have passed so quickly.) What are the controlling depths? I'm leary of boating on flooded land. Are there farmhouses, outbuildings, farming equipment posing hazards? Doubt my windlass can lift a tractor.

How's the fishing? (Had red snapper for dinner tonight, "caught" at my local Safeway.)

Time to updates your charts, Marcus! Yes, some of my older charts also show it as dry, but it's been flooded for decades. It's a pretty consistent 12-18 ft deep with no obstacles that I know of other than some snags nearest the levees. Normally those are only a problem for dingies.

No fishing tonight. Just enjoying the serene quiet with the Admiral.

It has a "lever" for retrieve speed control and anyone who has spent any time reeling in Halibut, Cod, etc. can really appreciate it. I'm not 88 but am considering getting/using one on my next sojourn to Alaska. There were 5 of us fishing (including George 88) and we all watched with envy as he reeled in his fish.
