Navigation Planning Software

I have been reading about Garmin's Homeport software that allows one to plan a trip on a computer and then transfer the route to an onboard chartplotter which as I understand must also be a Garmin.. Can anyone recommend a similar system for Simrad or Furuno.

I don't use computer-based navigation for a variety of reasons, but here is the gist of a post that appeared this evening on the Trawlers & Trawlering list from Jeffrey Siegel:

"I just installed MaxSea TimeZero Navigator and have been finally able
to mess around with it on a known computer....I hit it really hard with a $399 Toshiba laptop
running Vista and installed all of the raster and vector charts for
the US along with the 3D data and satellite imagery. I purposely
didn't use a really hot and high-end PC so I could see what it would
really be like. After using it all day and giving demos I honestly
think it is the most significant boating software released since the
first time I saw Nobeltec showing chart quilting - 1995 or so. The
speed and silky-smooth zooming and panning is impressive and unlike
anything I've ever seen. It will change the way you interact with a
nautical chart because moving around an entire coast is
instantaneous. It's incredible..... Street pricing seems to be about $350. That's for the stand-alone version. The version that connects to NavNet3D Furuno devices costs
more."

C-map has similar software available. I own a copy and would be glad to sell it to you as I never use mine. It includes a card reader and a blank C-map card for transferring data to your C-map plotter. whiteboard me if your interested
