Wifey feeling better lately so she wanted to spend time working on AXE so we spent the day working on the bow and doing a clean up of the hard.

We ordered an 8m3 skip bin and filled it pretty quickly. Need a 10m3 next Saturday to finish off what's left and that'll be it for the old boat known as AceHigh II. All cut up and taken away. We also worked on the chines, ribs and bow panels. All in all we made good progress on AXE today and had fun in the process.

Good news all round Hendo!
What`s actually left of AceHigh II in the rebuild? The keel? What else?

Yeah things are looking up and up each day. Very grateful for the turnaround fingers crossed its going to keep looking up!

Unfortunately the only thing left of AceHigh II (timber wise) is the keel, stem and the post thingy on the front of the boat that you can tie off an anchor to or be towed from.

When i was rebuilding the engine and gearbox, i discovered that the engine can't be original as it is a 1991 model as boat was circa 1958. The paragon gearbox is original IMHO as that is from the same era as the boat.

So ... I know you guys from the States have NFL but i found out on the news tonight that we have a WA Team and I think watching our Western Australian ladies team (Western Angles) play is far more exciting than watching your guys play :-D

Personally I couldn't care less if they can or can't play but It'd sure be fun watchin!

OMG Matt!!! OMG........

Been several decades since I suited for football up - BUT - No prob... Can I start the U.S.A. male team (i.e., “Ultra-Stride-Athletes”) to compete with Western Angles team??? Would become great fun! Just think of the pileups – might take a long time to get them apart! :D

Your picts are too cool, i.e. SEXY! However, I must say that although I wondered why a complete female football team section was never started up... Western Angles “suit-up” is not what I expected!! LOL

HAHAHAHA I so knew you'd reply to that post mate! HAHA.

In light of recent developments, AXE may take longer to build depending on game fixtures ;-) lol.

And that's all she wrote folks!

The hard is all cleaned, AHII is all in the bin. It's amazing how much room you have when you clean up hey!

It's also amazing how much I've learnt along the way so far. I found a bag of gland packing at the bottom of the rubbish pile today. By its location, it was one of the first items that came off the boat.

I can assume that at the time, Not knowing what it was I pegged it at the pile. Fast foward 10 months and not only do I know about gland packing and glands etc and i now im like oh sh!t I better keep that lol. It's amazing how much ya learn hey!

Tried to sort through the rubbish and find items of interest to keep and reuse. The only things I kept was the bow rail, the post thingy and the old winch that use to pull pots up from the deep. The winch is rooted but the spindle thing isn't so I'll keep that and use it as a door stop of something. Other than that AHII is all but gone.

I can't wait to do that with all my shop equipment and household furnishings to go wandering the rest of my natural days with my bride. Progressing nicely Matt:thumb::thumb:

Nifty new avatar there too.

Progressing nicely Matt:thumb::thumb:.

Thanks Mate! Unfortunately for one reason or another, I'm way behind on my initial schedule tho. I had AXE down for final fit out stage with launch and sea trial in 8 weeks with a total build time of 12 months.

Looks like it'll be more like another 12 months IMO.

I also underestimated what needed to be done and what was actually involved and didn't adjust my timeline accordingly.

Ah oh well, as long as she gets done then that's all that matters.

It'll be worth the wait.

Yeah you like? I was at work and got bored so decided to open a picture I had of my prop and coloured the background in and chuck up her name. I'm hindsight tho I should have done gold lettering not white. Should be an easy fix

Hendo I very much like your avatar too. I've always found propellers beautiful. At least most of them. Go figure .... they're of a boat right? Some anchors are beautiful too. Meanwhile fenders, winches and bow pulpits and lots of bow railing not so beautiful as in visually could do very nicely w/o.

Hi Eric.
Yeah I'm the same mate. I have an unwavering attraction to props. Tho I have to admit, I also really like vertical windlasses without the capstan on top of the gypsy.

Hendo, what you are doing is a bit like the boating equivalent of that TV program, (on ABC1 at times), called 'Grand Designs', and they always go over budget and over time, so don't fret...it's just par for the course.

Removed the bow panels after trimming for final fit. Cut and fitted another couple of ribs to the bow then prepped the ribs with epoxy. Mixed up a heaps of epoxy glued the panels and screwed them all on. Also started filling the joints and started filleting the hull/keel join.

Whoa.

So how long does it take immigration in Oz to process my visa for permanent residence?

Hendo you're right some anchor winches are very classy looking.

What kind of epoxy are you using?

When you decide you need a car are you going to strip down a 1949 Dodge to the frame and rebuild and reassemble? I'll enjoy the blog on that too.

Hi Eric,
Mate I'm using Bote-Cote epoxy system. Aussie made epoxy with no thinners which is awesome because the molecules in thinners are bigger than a water molecule and when the thinner evaporates when it dries it leaves small worm type holes in the epoxy allowing water to seep in.

Hahah nah mate. No more car rebuilds. I've done a complete rebuild on a Holden ute about 9 years ago. Stripped her down to the chassis, had it acid bathed and powder coated then rebuilt it.

Here's some progress pics from today.

Jeeeze, Hendo, that's pretty cool, is there anything you can't do with you hands...on second thoughts don't answer that, it could lead to the mother of all thread hijacks...

Wicked paint Hendo...nice build too...let me know when you wanna start a HD project and I will hook you up...;-)

Matt - me mate - I've decided you are not just crazy... you're freaking INSANE!!!

Great bunch of projects with beautiful finished products! Can hardly wait to see your completed AXE... what's next - a restored helicopter with naked girls air brushed on the roater blades?? And, a couple inside for da “pleasure” ride!!

Get it on man!! :socool:

Gee Matt, what great versatile work. Wow!
For Ben, a late update on residency. Things just took a turn, our Prime Minister, who just "removed" the one who "removed" him 3 years ago, made a few changes. Ok arriving from USA, preferably by plane, but arrive by boat with no Visa, you`re banished forever to a remote island in Papua New Guinea, a place where our Govt. warns us it is not safe to go.
Enough politics. Ben, I`m sure you`d be welcome.
