Marking lenght of lines

This is how I mark mine, a a black band for every 10' a red band for 5' the tip, black or if left white doesn't count.
In the picture the top line is 20' long the lower is 35' I round to the nearest 5'
It helps picking the right line out of a bunch in the locker.

Masking tape and spray paint do the job

I use red, white, and blue lines according to length. An added advantage is communicating to dock and deck hands. "secure the red line" "put the blue on that cleat", etc. Often a dockhand or guest who wants to help doesn't know a bow spring from a stern line. We also like to give dockhands the eyes and we deal with the bitter ends.
