I took the family, 6 people, to Catalina for the day & it was a blast! We got the crap beat out of us on the trip over, from Dana Point to Avalon. A mono hulled Catalina Flyer (no stabilizers) cruised at 23 knots and the entire top deck passengers were sick, people down below on the main deck were sick and people in the extreme aft end of the boat, trying to get fresh air, were swamped when a rogue wave hit. My wife, son in law, my daughter, grand daughter, were all sick and my grandson and myself were among the few that were not.

On the island, however, it was a different story. Great weather, wonderful scenery, golf carted all of Avalon and above & Gramma (my wife) went Zip Lining!

The cruise back to Dana Point was terrific as a new boat (stabilized) made the trip much more enjoyable. We had a wonderful dinner in Dana Point and drove the 60 miles back to La Jolla.

All this in one day! California, the land of fruits and nuts and a place I never want to leave! :thumb:

Lots of vacant moorage in that first picture. Seems a bit unusual for Catalina, but I suppose the boating season really hasn't started yet .... One apparent benefit of getting old is, at least for me, is less susceptibility to motion sickness.

That first picture is of Descanso (sp?) Avalon harbor had some boats but no where near filled.

Nice photo, Walt. Looks like you made it up to the Wrigley house.

Very perceptive, Ray! That photo was shot from the golf cart at the driveway leading to Wrigley's mansion.
