We're currently in Wardrick Wells and heading for Staniel Cay tomorrow. Chuck

Chuck:

Make sure you get us a picture of the pigs at Staniel!

Chuck, What anchor(s) are you using?? Is your choice different or the same as when sailing? and Why? We know we swing different, did you go bigger, smaller, all together different choice? Chain or line rode? Do you ever use a stern anchor as well or do the "bahamian anchor"?

Sorry...it's me again asking too many questions.

I'll be on the lookout for that next photo-saturated blog posting! Living the dream vicariously through your blog. Ok, enough now, back to work for me.

Good luck and enjoy.

Great, after many beautiful places you'll be in George Town, another beautiful place with a lot of friends, blue hole, volleyball beach, ... Good trip

Bess, we pretty much don't use 2 anchors in the Bahamas, like all of the guide books tell you to do. There are exceptions, such as in cuts and anchoring in strong reversing currents. But even then, we still often only use one anchor. The CQR was our anchor for 17 years on our sailboat. We switched to the new style Manson on the trawler and have been very pleased with its performance. We always go at least one size larger than the manufacturer recommends for an anchor. PLEASE, PLEASE, let's not start an anchoring thread. Our choice of rode for the anchor is 100 feet of chain, thanks HopCar, and 150 feet of road. Chuck

Sorry!! My interest is in your comparisons between your sailing experience and Beach House. :thumb:

Not a problem. We used the CQR successfully for 17 years and tens of thousands of miles. Our sailboat was 15 ton, a bit heavier than the trawler. I can't even guess at how many times we anchored. When we needed to buy a new anchor for Beach House we researched and had a lot of good feedback on the Manson so decided to try it. It has done well for us. Chuck
