Time, tides, and currents

The friendliest place on the web for anyone who enjoys boating.

I check the tides and the currents, particularly when crossing the Columbia River Bar; I always try for slack current at the bar, which occurs sometime after low tide because of the momentum of the river.
Sometimes I ignore the tides crossing the Straits from Port Angeles to BC; if there is a forecast for strong afternoon winds then I'll go in the morning regardless of tides, since they are pretty much beam to anyway.

75 to 110 miles at "trawler speed"? The few times I ever was compelled to do that, I took the ocean, much faster and more straight forward. To me, trying to make that kind of time on the inside is just a no-can-do, you are passing up so many places to explore and enjoy. Exceptions being New York/Atlantic City/Cape May and Key Biscayne/Marathon/Key West due to draft. After a few trips, got to consistently skipping NC west of Beaufort and S FL south of Ft Pierce due to tediousness.
