There is no protection for Friends and Family transactions, so never ever use it to buy something.
    • Declines to allow viewing the item before proceeding with the transaction.

Looking for a reverse rotation fresh water pump for 1972 Perkins 6.354. TAD, Foley, Diesel specialist, Perkins are no help. They will only rebuild one if the housing and impeller are in good shape.
 
I have been pondering this too. I wonder if an automotive electric replacement is available? I would rather have something replaceable should the need arise, or at the very least, be able to carry a spare that is an easy replacement. You could also easily rig an amperage gauge failsafe buzzer to it so you could catch a failure well before the temp sensor fired off a warning.

But this is just a theory. I am sure it will be full of hole by the time I come back to check on this thread ;o)

Call Larry at Stewart Marine in Seattle, his has been a Perkins shop for a very long time.

A friend of mine builds Hot Rods and he sometimes uses an electric water pump on some. But you still have to have a special made housing made up. Still be cheaper than replacing the engines.

I'd bet an adapter plate would be easy enough to fabricate.

Not sure looking at all the bolt holes. But just getting mine redone since the shaft was broken and the area where the bearing was had to be machined and shimed up cost me $450. It better last another 10 years. If I have a spare then it will last 30 years. lol

Too bad as it is the same part# as Tom quoted, keep looking I'm sure you will find one on the net.
 
I have a friend who is from India....he's in the surgical instrument manufacturing business...I wonder if he would be able to find any of these pups over there?? Have to give him a call....
 
Check with larry stewart at stewart marine in seattle (ballard specifically). I gave him my reverse rotation engine when I repowered. He has a HUGE pile of good used parts.

Could it be as simple as the same pump as the normal rotation one with a reversed impeller. Just wondering.Larry

Totally different. Top is normal rotation with impeller out, right is contra pump.

For what it is worth this is the part number of the contra pump. U5MW0114.
 
I still say have a pattern 3D printed with the vanes reversed then have a "tree" of them investment cast and sell the extras to pay for the experience.
