Cool. The threads got merged :)

The Winter Solstice is Here!!

Despite snow and cold, the Junco's, Chickadee's, and Pine Siskin's were all singing this morning...it's like they know the days will start getting longer tomorrow.

Hope everybody has a good spin around the sun this next year, and helps make this little Earth of ours a better place for future generations.

Merry Christmas to all you Trawlerites.
I hope you are surrounded by family, loved ones and good cheer.

I'll be missing out this year, surrounded by oil wells, desert and razor wire.
(someone has to keep the oil & diesel coming for your boats)

May you get your Christmas wish (s). We were lucky. Santa came early down south. We went back in the water on Thursday. Happy Holidays to all! :)

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica]Sailors pray,
For fair winds and a following sea

The smell of salt in the air,
The feel of their skin as it's touched by the spray

An albatross soaring above,
Dolphins in the ship's wake at play

To witness a work of art that only God can create,
The sunset at the end of day

At night a million stars in the sky,
Safe anchorage in an islands lee

When the time comes to die as for all it must,
To awake in Sailors Heaven where nothing ever rusts

And always there would be,
Fair winds and a following sea

Merry Christmas from the Great Laker, Anne and Larry.

We are 88 days into the Great Loop with over 2,500 miles traversed, and have come back from Tarpon Springs, FL, to Michigan for Christmas with family.

Here is what the light poles looked like in sunny Tarpon Springs. See our trip blog at:

Let's all look forward to many wonderful and great boating days in 2013.

Merry Christmas

Hi to all and a Big Merry Christmas from down on the TENNESSEE RIVER AT HALES BAR about 25 miles south west of Chattanooga!!

Merry Christmas All

Merry Christmas, We are spending the holiday at the dock with family and friends. Hope everyone has a happy new year.

Ho Ho Ho and a Merry Christmas to all.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Aside from boating, I have a hobby home recording studio in my basement. This year I decided to produce a Christmas album. Hardly anybody I know knows I sing (or try). This year I passed out copies of my album in liew of Christmas cards. Cats out of the bag now.

I hoped to be able to attach a few samples to this message but alas there is no apparent way to attach an mp3 file. Maybe next year? But in the meantime, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Merry Christmas from my temporary home in Corona, NY in the Citi Field parking lot!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE

The last 6 years have been very busy with lots of community stuff and Alaska weather. This year we're enjoying the peace here in Washington.

For 6 years we've had Christmas trees over 14'. This year ... 2'.

GFC-

You posted a version of my favorite Christmas Poem, being an ex-Marine. The original was written by a Marine for his fellow Marines.

Merry Christmas, My Friend
By a Marine Lance Corporal, 1986
T’was the night before Christmas, he lived all alone
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone
I had come down the chimney with presents to give
And to see just who in the home did live
As I looked all about, a strange sight I did see
No tinsel, no presents, not even a tree
No stocking by the fire, just boots filled with sand
On the wall hung pictures of a far distant land
With medals and badges, awards of all kind.
A sobering thought soon came to my mind
For this house was different, unlike any I’d seen
This was the home of a U.S. Marine
I’d heard stories about them, I had to see more,
So I walked down the hall and pushed open the door
And there he lay sleeping, silent, alone
Curled up on the floor in his one bedroom home
He seemed so gentle, his face so serene
Not how I pictured a U.S. Marine
Was this the hero of whom I had just read?
Curled up in his poncho, a floor for his bed?
His head was clean shaven, his weathered face tan
I soon understood, this was more than a man.
For I realized the families I saw that night,
Owed their lives to these me who were willing to fight.
Soon around the nation, the children would play,
And grown-ups would celebrate on a bright Christmas Day.
They all enjoyed freedom, each month and all year,
Because of Marines like this one lying here.
I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve, in a land far from home.
Just the very thought brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and I started to cry.
He must of awoken, for I heard a rough voice,
Santa, don’t cry, this life is my choice.
I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more
My life is my God, my country, my Corps.
With that he rolled over, drifted off to sleep,
I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep.
I watched him for hours, so silent and still.
I noticed he shivered from the cold night’s chill.
So I took off my jacket, the one made of red,
And covered this Marine from his toes to his head.
Then I put on his T-shirt of scarlet and gold,
With an eagle, globe and anchor emblazoned so bold.
Although it barely fit me, I began to swell with pride,
And for one shining moment I was Marine Corps deep inside.
I didn’t want to leave him so quiet in the night,
This guardian of honor so willing to fight.
But half asleep he rolled over, and in a voice clean and pure,
Said “Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas Day, all secure.”
One look at my watch and I knew he was right.
Merry Christmas my friend, Semper Fi and goodnight.

Semper Fi! and Merry Christmas to all!
