Thanks one and all for another year of trawler facts, assistance and entertainment!! I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday season and 2013 filled with tailwinds and following seas!!

Nice card Al. (And I won't repeat my last years remarks for fear of escalating our private war of retribution).

And, yes, Happy Holidays to all.

Happy Solstice Season!

Happy Solstice Season...the *real* reason for the season ;)

Well, for us northern hemisphere types anyways, because the winter solstice is almost upon us with its promise of longer daylight each day, the renewal of springtime Life and warmth, and thoughts of bringing our boats out of their winter hibernations :)

It can still snow here into April, and we've had snow on the ground for up to 6 months, but at least the days will be getting longer...

The same to all of you from Tina and me. Be safe, stay warm, and have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Talk about your short days.

The sun will come up at 10:15 AM and set at 3:41 PM.

Come the 21 the days start getting longer.

I really look forward to that day.

SD

December 21 is when WINTER begins. There is a lot of snow in the mountain and foot hills. Most morning for the last week we have had snow in the morning, and temps close to freezing. January is usualy our coldest month and shortest days

In the PNW we are experiencing extremely high tides. 13.2 ft. Looked out the window Saturday morning and for the first time was looking down at the parking lot. The tide was within 3 ft from the parking lot. All this week and most of next tides are high. Which is great as my wife is still on crutches so makes it easy get up the ramp as the ramp as level. :flowers::thumb:

Greetings,
Hmmm... the 21st eh? Read my latest offering in the "Off Topic Forum". In any case, happy solstice and Junkanoo to you as well.

Merry Christmas!

So what are you all dressed/dolled up for? Love the pretty dresses and the stain glass windows. The Christmas Holiday time as its basically the only time of year to get dressed/guessed up.

Merry Christmas from Dixie from Lou and Don. Here is a song from some boys about 50 miles down the road at Fort Payne, Alabama. You may have heard of them.

Wow look at that lovely family!!!

Winter started here yesterday. I had to get my snowtires on the car. Today was worse, weather wise. Here that means you can't use the roads, because the snow packs under the tires and ceates ice, causing slowdowns and stoppages. Then it rains and the gutters are plugged with slush, so large lakes form, making any driving into a wet experience.
To top it off, the new Port Mann Bridge was closed most of the day, causing massive traffic jams. When the bridge was designed, nobody thought about ice falling from the overhead cables, so when that started to occur (60 odd claims) the bridge had to be closed.
Time to go back to the land of perpetual summer.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, everyone. KJ

A New Christmas Poem

New Christmas Poem

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;
I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,

"MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."
THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,

I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.
I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL

AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.
I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,

THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,

WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."
ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.

'MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.'

This poem was written by a Marine. The following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....
PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men, women, and Canadian Forces for our being able to celebrate these festivities.

Please, do your small part to plant this small seed. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.

Merry Christmas from Mike and Tina

Our boat is the smaller one, docked at Carillon Point,Kirkland WA.

We got to follow this Argosy Xmas ship through the OPENING in Lake Washington HWY 520 floating bridge last night. We have never before and likely will not again.

Interesting in the dark. Exciting for several retired pilot friends along for the ride.
