Does the rope in the picture actually serve some purpose?

May just be to keep the brake from slipping or to prevent wear & tear on the windlass...not my style for retaining the anchor..

or it was just for looks/picture :D

It stops the bow from falling off.

What picture?

I don't think it's fastened to the chain of the anchor that's in the roller.

Could it be how they desided to store their anchor snubber?

now I see the link
It is a heavy rope but I believe like Rambler they use it as a snubber, keeping it off the deck so green crud doesn't grow under it.

Its not a rope, its a line.

It's a rope until we know its purpose.

It's a snubber but in my opinion an awfully heavy one. Not sure it would provide much shock absorbing.

Maybe used to set or breakout the anchor and keep the strain off the windlass.

That's a possibility. We set and break out our anchor against a heavy line with a chain hook on it fastened to a deck cleat to keep the strain off the windlass gears, mounting hardware, and pulpit.

Rick,
The Kirki , brings back some bad memories on the Aussie Coast.
Changed a lot of survey requirements down here, foreign ships(especially doggy ones) started to dread AMSA and visiting Australia

The deck seems so poorly designed that there is no chain stopper ,
so against the Mfg advice I guess they use the windlass to tie off the chain.

This is really crap, design and construction in a big ticket boat.
