Trumpy - Yacht for Sale***SOLD***

If you always wanted to own a Trumpy but could not afford it, this may be your chance. I know of a person in Fort Lauderdale that needs to sell their Trumpy Classic Yacht. They are asking 150k. They paid approximate 500k two or three years ago. The boat will need investment to bring it to prime condition but at this price , it may be a good value.

If interested call: Geoff Millward at 954 292-0709. For pictures and details.

Let him know David Siesel aka Coast Guard Dave referred you so he has context. He is not a broker just helping a friend sell the yacht. The name of the vessel is Drifter.

Picture at this link.

I recently had an opportunity to tour a Trumpy that was being transported by a local captain. Quite a piece of craftsmanship.

No...Where did you see the post. I thought I only put it on this site. I am not a broker. Just helping a friend, help his friend who owns the boat. I am not being paid anything for my help. Just thought it could be a good buy for someone interested in this type of vessel.

I agree thay are beautiful yachts. You can see almost see FDR or Churchhill smoking a cigar on the boat. The one that my friend has needs some work as mentioned. From what I have been told, the engines need some maintenance and the boat in general needs some TLC, eg brightworks need varnish I see it as a project boat but for someone with the time and money, looking for this type of vessel, it could be a great deal. I agree with you, that it is a beautiful vessel, more then I could take on but I love to look at her.

Regards,

David

re: Trumpy - Yacht for Sale***SOLD***

I took the time Sunday & Monday to fly down to FLL to inspect the drifter.

Bring Lots of $$$$. The seller is asking $150K now, up from the $125K earlier this year.

I spoke to Jim Moores about the boat before I traveled down there. He viewed the boat back in January.
I was expecting a wreck, but the interior salon was in good shape. The engines 6-71's are shot! Need total rebuild.
I love the character of this old boat, but I think it needs someone with more dollars than sense, to bring it back to its former
glory.

I also had the pleasure of touring Innisfail, a 91ft Trumpy in excellent shape.
It was interesting to see the before & after of a 1939 vessel.

Glad to hear that you had the opportunity to see a before and after views of similar yachts so that you were able to get perspective. I am not sure where you saw the boat for 125K since my original posting was at 150. In any case, these types of Yachts are like razor blade handles, the initial cost in this case is low but the shaving cream, razor blades, etc add up. Remember a few years ago the owner of Drifter paid serious $$$& for both the Yacht and the on-going maintenance. So for someone, it could be a great find. I agree with you that, any lof these vessels require a large commitment, the condition that you start with, determines how big a one you start with.

I wish you luck on your search. My family loves NO. My sister lived there for almost 30 years until Katrina wiped out her home. Being an Educator with no school system, she had to relocate. She hopes to move back sooner rather then later but will retire there .

Hope to make Jazz Fest but not sure.

Regards,

David

The engines 6-71's are shot! Need total rebuild.

Parts are about $1100 each, Da Book is $100 or so and the injection timing tool about $45.

Not a big deal., if you will get your hands dirty.

But the boat is WOOD! and at least to me , its a non starter.

Understand. Having a wood boat with perfect engines, for me would be a non starter but for the wooden boat community it may not be a big deal. In any case, I clearly understand why this boat is not the right one for you. I wish you the best in your search for the right boat. Like you, I will sit and admire those who have the desire and means to make boats like the Trumphy look beautiful with their varnished bright works and looks of years gone by.

Here is a different Mathis/Trumpy that I worked on back in the early 1970s. She was called Columbia and was a sucessful charter yacht. 110 feet designed by John Trumpy and built in the Mathis yard before he bought that yard a year later.

Trumpy - Yacht for Sale

Hi all,

*

I was the Captain of the Drifter for at least 5 years before her present owner. I even helped the present owner on her trip to Florida after her sale. Do not know what happened to her engines after the sale. They were their usual strong selves when she was sold. It is pretty hard *to disable these engines. They run and run and run. Perhaps they just need a little maintenance. I cannot see what the problem is and it is not mentioned here. These are NOT supercharged engines. Because of this, they last forever. This is one heck of a Trumpy. I cannot imagine why she is being sold for this price. If you are in the market for a Trumpy, this is one Classic "Old Lady". If I had the dough, I would buy her myself. And trust me as a previous Captain, I know her inside and out!

For more images of this yacht during my domain, go here:

Trumpy - Yacht for Sale

While the Trumpy Yacht Drifter is a "wooden" boat, she had her entire hull, sides, up over the gunnels, walkways and a few inches up the cabin walls fiberglassed. This includes the front deck under the wooden deck. I believe for insurance purposes, this allows her classification to be a fiberglass hull.*

Trumpy - Yacht for Sale

Questions about the 1939 76' Trumpy Yacht "Drifter" being for sale. Who is selling her? Why is she apparently not listed with any brokers? At least, after a pretty good search, I cannot find any other reference for her being for sale other then in this forum. In what manner were the engines "shot" and needing a total rebuild? Also, who has any current photos? All photos being shown are my OWN photos which are now years old.

Worth more then the new asking price. If you ever dreamed of owning a classic Yacht, this
Could be your chance. Call Geoff , if you are interested . His number is in several of the posts.

"In what manner were the engines "shot" and needing a total rebuild?"

Engines are usually "shot" by lack of maint.

Perhaps they simply did not operate the engines for years , with out bothering to pickle them.

Proper maint requires skill, time , knowledge and some money.

Perhaps the owner or paid hand did not read and observe DD's "Out of service for over 30 days" in the maint manual.

Frequently we see fine boats with 1/100th the hours required to wear out an engine being sold with a new or rebuilt engine(s).

Neglect killed em!

re: Trumpy - Yacht for Sale***SOLD***

Again I am not a broker and do not have any financial interest in Drifter. I am posting this for a friend. The owner of Drifter wants to find a new owner for the yacht as quickly as possible . To support this goal he has lowered the price of the yacht to $75,000 or make a reasonable offer in this price range. The boat will be sold "As Is" and "Where Is" . It is currently in Fort Lauderdale. This vessel is a steal at this price for the right owner. I do not know of for a fact but the interior and materials in this vessel are worth well over 75k. In any case : Please call Geoff Millward at 954-292-0709 for more information.
