    For Sale ads MUST include:
    • Asking price

    • A Basic Description
    • Clear statement whether you are the owner or non-owner (posting for friend, relative, or acquaintance)
    • Don't forget to select: FOR SALE, WANTED or FREE in the Title block.
    All ads should also include ALL the following:
    • Pertinent maintenance and condition information
    • Exterior picture or pictures
    • Interior picture or pictures (boats)

    • Buyer or Seller suggests Paypal "Friends and Family" payment. Paypal is a good way to arrange payment but an invoice for goods and services should be used rather than "Friends and Family". "Friends and Family" avoids fees BUT there is no recourse if the transaction runs aground. Friends and Family is for gifts only. There is no protection for Friends and Family transactions, so never ever use it to buy something.
    • Declines to allow viewing the item before proceeding with the transaction.

I am trying to find a small trawler, around 32' to live a board. Currently in the Saint Pete, west coast of Florida. I am not big on looks but cost has to around 25K or so.

Why a trawler ?

Look in Florida Mariner , there are tons of liveaboard OK boats for your budget.
 
Does it have to run? Will you be at a marina or anchored somewhere? If anchored, what about electric power, water and sewage?

I'm sure there are a lot of boats for sale in Florida but I think you would do better looking locally. Walk local marinas looking for "for sale" signs. Check local newspapers or craigslist.

$10k more than his budget with an owner who sounds rather firm on everything. If you can live without a raised salon (more windows that can leak) or a flybridge there's many nice diesel express boats available in your budget.. They have lower air draft so you can slip under bridges that don't open. Young women consider them sexy if that's of any value.
 
You mentioned $25k is your budget. Is that just purchase price? I think that buying something, getting it to work, and up to date on maintenance to be reliable is going to blow that budget. More so if you have two oil burners!

I will tell you for a fact that "young" women do not think Mainships are sexy...stay away!!! ;)

I grew up in st pete and used to pick gals up in my Vet

funny they always seemed a bit shocked when I showed up in my Chevette never knew why
 
I'd be scared of a 25k trawler that I expected to keep me afloat and not have any money to make necessary upgrades.
 
If all you needed was a floating fiberglass tub could easily be doable. I'd probably just get a houseboat/barge at that point. If you are on the hook and want some creature comforts then at minimum you'll need refrigeration and water. That takes power. Power takes solar, wind, or a penny. Then you need house batts. Cheaper the boat, the higher the likelihood they will need to be fixed. That doesn't include all the above the waterline leaks.

Maybe try and catch someone with a decent vessel that just blew an engine or ran into hard times. That goes with any motorsport purchase. Those usually net a good steal that isn't a derelict.

Duffys Creek Marina, Georgetown, Maryland. 410 275 2141 has 3 yard owned trawlers up for sale at low , Under $5000. that need lots of soap and water for sale. Nice Mainship with single diesel. Worth a look.
