Racor 500

How about the kit to mount the flame resistant metal bowl?

I just removed one of those nuisance items from my original Racor. Reasons:

1) Not required for pleasure boat
2) Mine are mounted in bilge far from any likely source of fire so the metal cup will do little to no good in slowing up fire and heat from below melting the bowl
3) Obstructs view of what is collecting in the bottom of the bowl

Never had 'em in the three I had in the GB42 I owned and had surveyed many times in 29 years.

If there are flames licking at the bowls of your Racors, you should either be in the process of leaving your boat, rapidly, or you should already be off it.

Sailors exchange in St Augustine, Fl usually has them kicking around as well. They have an Ebay store too.
Look at the Tony Athens version of filtration for a different perspective. Seaboard Marine in Oxnard, Ca. Off the shelf filters available anywhere.
