Monk 36

Always owned a sailboat but am now switching to a trawler. Am looking at a Monk 36 tomorrow and was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on somethings to look for. Any problems anyone has had. It's a 84 if that helps.
Thanks for any advice

Soft deck core under the teak deck (if so fitted), leaking windows, black iron fuel tanks are often corroded but very difficult to access for inspection. Propane systems meet no known standard. AC outlets generally just screwed to the bulkhead cut outs without any junction boxes. Suggest you do your sea trial in 3-4' waves ... they handle that just like a cork.

We are very happy with our Monk 36, 2003 model. I don't know of any special problems with that vintage but with any used trawler surely check the fuel tanks and holding tank (if it is metal) for corrosion, the windows and frames for leaks.
good luck!

Monk 36

Just returned from checking out the boat. No teak decks which was a plus and decks seem solid. Was raining out and didn't find any window leaks. Couldn't check the fuel tanks but might leave that for the survey. Overall the boat seems great just have to decide if this is the one. Might come down to $$$ Thanks for the advice and probably be back for more.

Good luck, Monk 36 was on my short list when shopping for our current boat and is still on my radar for a possible next boat.
