1996 Albin 28TE with 370 Cummins

I know this is not the typical trawler you see on here. Maybe more of a "sport trawler" if you will.....

I am reluctantly selling our 1996 Albin 28TE. We just spent a month in the Bahamas on her in June and logged over 700 nautical miles, but our boys are getting older and need a little bit more space. This boat is very special to us. I have put several hundred hours into her bringing her back to life. When I bought her almost two years she had briefly sank in Clear Lake Texas. She was down about 2 hours before it was raised and put into a shipyard. The owner had no insurance and did not want to put her back together. I bought her with a clear Texas title and started bringing her back to life.
The motor is a Cummins 6BTA 370 with 158 hours. The motors manufacture date on it is 2011, but the owner bought it in 2015 as a factory remanufactured motor. It only had 20 hours on it when she sank. I had the motor rebuilt with new factory parts. While the motor was out I had the following performed.
• The transmission was bench tested and new seals put in
• I had the head tested and a valve job done.
• New Awlgrip primer and paint.
• New water pump.
• New starter.
• New alternator.
• New exhaust plumbing and fiberglass elbows between the manifold and muffler.
I spent a year going through the boat and replacing everything that was effected or damaged. I pretty much replaced every system onboard. I will try to make a list with dates, but know I am going to miss several things.
• Full motor rebuild 09/2016. The motor currently has 158 hours.
• Triple axle trailer. I trailered the boat from Texas to Fort Lauderdale. 2,400 miles round trip.
• Bottom job 09/2017.
• New 1.5" Aquamet 19 propeller shaft 09/2017.
• New PSS dripless shaft seal 09/2017.
• New Cummins gauge panel 09/2016.
• New shaft coupler 09/2017.
• Rebuilt 19LH23 four blade prop. Pitched perfectly. The motor hits 3000RPM on the nose.
• New 6000 BTU Marinair AC unit 05/2017.
• I had the Vetus bowthruster rebuilt 08/2016.
• New 100 watt solar panel 05/2017.
• Garmin 74DV EcoMap with a triducer new 01/2017.
• New Mastervolt 12 volt 20 amp charger 06/2017.
• (4) group 29 batteries. (2) house (2) engine starting. 04/2016.
• LED lighting throughout.
• New sound down engine room insulation 2017.
• New companionway covers and instrument covers 06/2017.
• New West Marine VHF radio 01/2017.
• 4 new bilge pumps and high water alarm 2016.
• New shower sump pump 09/2016.
• New macertor pump and head plumbing 04/2016.
• Cockpit enclosure.
• 2 Lumitec Seablaze LED underwater lights 06/2016.
• New exhaust plumbing and elbows between the manifold and muffler .
• New hot water heater 09/2016.
• New freshwater pump 08/2016
• New Bennett trim tab pump and controller 08/2016.
• New Pyle MP3 head unit with blue tooth 09/2016.
• (4) Speakers total. (2) New in 09/2016.
• New 12" light bar 05/2016.
• New Jabsco marine head 09/2017.
I will keep adding to the list as I remember more.
I will be the first to tell you the boat is not perfect. I compounded and waxed her, but the fading is starting to come back. It really needs to be wet sanded. There are plenty of little scrapes and chips too. The fabric on the cushions down below have a few small tears.
The boat runs awesome! Like I had mentioned. We took it to the Bahamas for a month in June. We went from Fort Lauderdale down to the Exumas and covered about 700 nautical miles. I am not big on running hard and mostly cruise at 7.5 knots. I would say 125 of the engine hours are below 1500 RPM. But, the boat will run an honest 27 knots and cruise at 20-22 knots all day long.
I do not need to sell the boat and we still use it weekly so I am not going to take low offers. I know it is the most mechanically sound boat on the market with the most new systems and updates.
Call, email or text with questions or to set up a time to look at her.
