Delta Varigen - engine driven generator
by mmcdiarm » Thu Sep 22, 2011 11:53 am
I have a Delta Varigen that came with our new (to us) boat. This is a 110V engine driven system (belt) that uses a constant velocity pulley (circa ~1980). I have the entire system including controller, drawings and manual. It was uninstalled when we purchased the boat and I am not going to utilize it. If memory serves me correctly, it has a capacity of ~30A. Heavy unit. Will be at the Annapolis GAM and can deliver it there... $300 as is.

We have a cruise gen off the main 671, which we use when out and about. On several occasions the main gen quit so I just switch over to the cruise gen and continued on. Great to have back up.

Cruise gen are more for sail boats and small boats with one engine

"Cruise gen are more for sail boats and small boats with one engine"

Actually the modern system of using a large alternator and as many 4000W inverters as needed, creates better electric and fewer constant speed RPM hassles.

Best it can allow a noisemaker anchored ,to run at optimum speed to be well loaded.

Someone willing to bolt a unit on for a 30A or less load , follow the thread in the initial posting, click on it.

Good luck in your quest for cheap juice..
