I have a fairly comprehensive web site I created about the boat and the work I have done on her in recent years.
Say Good-Bye, 1982 Defever trawler
Feel free to ask any questions. I will be straightforward and have nothing to hide. I am an extremely pointed person about mechanical integrity and can tell you honestly that this is an EXCELLENT boat. Just a few weeks ago I replaced all the throttle and shift cables plus replaced the oil coolers. Repainted the anchor chain, did the teak, etc. I hate broken stuff so I try to be pro-active when possible.
Coming from the aviation world professionally, I am always thinking about reliability and availability two big words in the world of boating as well. The boats systems need to be reliable and AVAILABLE when you call on them !
Engine has about <800 hrs on it right now.

builder

According to the boat number stamped in the hull, the manufacturer code is OYI and when I looked that up it was associated with OFFSHORE YACHTS INTL, LTD, 128 Water Street Connecticut. But that must have been the importer.
I know the boat was built in Taiwan.
During the 1970s, most of the Defevers were built at CTF in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. But the Defever Cruiser's web site states the following:
"Numerous other DeFever designs continue to grace the waterways of the world. One very popular model among DeFever Cruisers members is the DeFever 41. These were built in the 1980s, first by Miracle Marine Corporation (MMC), and later by Bluewater Yachts, both of Taiwan."

I have never been able to determine which yard built our boat. But then again, it never really mattered to me. When I found her in 2007, I was so impressed with the craftsmanship and features she had, (as well as her history), we bought her.
thanks
R,
