Tow my 36' CC from St Pete area to Key West

Interested in towing a 36' center console to Key West?

I need the boat in Key West around the first week of August. If you're a cruiser heading down to Key West from the St Pete area contact me at 727-234-0915.
I've towed boats like this behind bigger sportfisherman (40-70'), and you couldn't tell it was there. I'm sure it would tow as well or better behind a 36'+ trawler. Boat is a 36' Dakota with (3) 300 HP motors and perfectly seaworthy (it's not going to start sinking on you on the way down). Probably weighs 8-10k. Would be willing to pay $750 each way, so if you were planning on a trip to KW this would certainly help you with fuel cost. Give me a call even if you're only available for one leg of the trip, I can always bring the boat back on it's own bottom if I have to. I just hate 200 mile trips on these kinds of boats.

Lmafo, our 17' dusky hull takes a knot of our speed I can only imagine what a 36 would do. Is the Dakota the same hull as the Marlin, Marlago, cigarette and etc?

I think the Dakota is now manufactured by a company called Sonic. I don't know much about outboard boats, just doing this as a favor for someone I run a larger boat for. I also run a 60' sport fish w/1000 hp Cat C-32's and have towed a comparable boat with it. The difference in fuel consumption was less than 2 gph (at 1000 rpm) towing vs not towing. I'll probably end up driving the thing down. I'm just not a big fan of this kind of boat unless the seas are running 4-6 (inches, not feet) or less. A trip that would have a 20 year old salivating has me pre-booking an appointment with a chiropractor.

Not to insult your intelligence...but at $750 each way...for a few bucks more, someone with a hydraulic trailer won't take it by land?

I just got someone with a 48 Grand Banks, but to answer your question
I got a couple quotes to ship by land, and they were both around $1500 (each way). That's very close to what it would have cost in fuel, and I could be there in four hours.
Now let me see if I can figure out how to delete this post (my first time using this forum)

You shouldn't delete the thread. This is an awesome way for people to become aware of how to make fuel $$$$. It sounds a little low on price to me, But concept is fine. Too bad it's not around Cape Cod!

There is a legal liability issue. Being 'hired' to tow another vessel brings a whole other set of legal responsibility on the Tower. If any vessel that is over 26' is engaged in towing for hire the operator must be USCG licensed for towing.

The other part would be the owner of the boat being towed would probably be uninsured for damage during the trip (having engaged an illegal tow)

On a good day, nothing would probably happen. But if 'it' hits the fan insurance would be an issue.
