Comnav Autopilot Control Head 1101

We have an older Comnav AP (1990+) that still works perfectly but the control case is falling apart and the LCD display has gone blank. Hate to spend the money to replace the entire system when everything else works well. Hoping someone has installed a new system that may have a good control head.
Thanks.

I would call Comnav Support to see if you can obtain a newer control head to replace it.

Comnav 1101 Head

Comnav wants more money for a control head (through one of their distributors) than a complete Garmin AP system. We installed a Garmin 7212 GPS and plan to add their HD Radar this winter. We may have to replace the entire Comnav as well.

I've been able to replace LCD displays on some old (89s) sailboat instruments (wind, depth, etc.) with units from DigiKey. The ones I did had a multitude of pins and plugged into the circuit board.

Found one for under $1200 at this site it still seems like a $500 item to me:

ComNav Marine Commander Mono Display Control Head

Your point is well taken if you can use the original pump. I suspect the advantages of a NMEA 2000 autopilot feeding your Garmin MFD would be a big improvement.

Comnav AP Head

The price is ridiculous for the item offered, not even sure it would be compatible with the old system. Guess I will start negotiations with the Admiral on replacing the entire system this winter to a Garmin unit.
Thanks for the help.
