Icom M700 SSB Radio

I am removing this SSB and its Icom AT120 tuner from my boat. I think it's worth about $700. Shipping extra, at cost to whatever destination. Any interest? I have the whip antenna as well but this would be difficult to ship given its length but a local pickup (Annapolis, MD) would work.

Not certain. Here is a quote from a sailnet article on this question.

"Of the earlier M700 and M800 radios, only certain models are capable of continuous full-power digital transmission and generally must be used at reduced power levels, consult the manual for details. This is less of a limitation for the PTC-II controller, because the average power for Pactor-2 is only about half the peak value due to their complex waveforms. The older M700 also did not incorporate a connector for external audio connections, and hooking up a modem requires modifying the radio."

So, it appears that the answer depends on the vintage of the M700 and the vintage of the Pactor modem that is used. I will not be home until Monday. Our boat came with piles of user manuals. Hopefully, the manual for the radio is there. If not, I will get the serial number from the radio and contact the manufacturer. It is apparent from the article that an "older" M700 would not suit your needs. I'll let you know soon.
