I have not spoken to his brother but once since Randy’s death. My boat is long gone and I did not document, should have though. I will see what I can find out about his boat. Just saw your post...

My apologize Todd i replied to the wrong posting. The Honey Badger does have the Detroit. I would much rather go with the Perkins - or repower. The Detroits have their issues. Thank you for sending this along.
 
I saw a speck of dirt in one of the pictures, but it was on my screen, not the boat.;)

You aren't kidding Cranky - I called - he was sittng on the boat showing it to t potential buyer. He will call me back
 
There is a very nice one for sale in Nova Scotia Canada, It is on the kijiji NS site. the owner is Pat Dubay Ph: 1 780 742 5045. It is located on Cape Breton Island(Northeast section of the province, of Nova Scotia. It is power by a 6bt 21o hp Cummins.
 
Hi All - I wanted to sincerely thank each and very one of you for listening and reporting on all your experiences.


I was seriously hung up on the repower. End of the day (Mr. Wesson will appreciate) I made an offer on a 1978 mk1 with a 165 Perkins. Asking was $39,000 I offered $30,000, he countered at $31,000.


The owner is a great person in which worked on airplanes most of his life and was a Perkins dealer back in the day. She has new turbo, injectors and fuel distribution pump.


Bow thruster/ no Generator but 3 banks of (2) 6volt golf cart batteries with 3000 watt inverter.


No Auto pilot radar or windless.. Bow thruster tho!! Great fuel management system with fuel polishing and fuel pump to clean fuel at the dock.

The previous owner fell and broke his ankle boarding the boat the second day of ownership...So he put a side entrance door into the cockpit. Like a transom door but in the side.


Decks are solid- ports have been replaced with solid stainless, the fridge was nicely upgraded to a full size recently 12 volt 110.

2018 water heater off engine and electric.


Full enclosure to include flybridge and cockpit - colder weather you can walk out the slider from the salon - up the ladder to the bridge without going outside.

Her name is "ThisIsIt" scrunched together just like that without spacing. After time I realized it is " This Is It" or "This I Sit" Maybe this guy was Dr Sues?

I look forward to installing Windlass - Auto Pilot - Radar in that order!

Next Year some custom cabinets in the bow for dresser like storage.

She is in Southern Delaware.. I am sea trialing last week in April. Have friends coming up from Florida to bring her back to CT first week in May.


I am going to open a new thread with some new items! For now I am going to try to get some pics up for you all.

WOW that boat is CLEAN!

Congrats it was a pleasure to throw some advice out there. I'm currently on my boat, drinking coffee and watching tv at the dock. You're going to love it.


Some ideas on autopilot. I ended up installing a past generation Garmin TR1 which can be had for very cheap. I highly recommend it and have about $500 in my system which works flawlessly. It has all the features you'd want in a modern system too. It's basically Garmin's current production autopilot without the digital controller(has a push button remote). I searched far and wide trying to save money and can't say how happy I am to have this one.

My windlass is currently broken and I do miss it. It's next on my list.


If you do decide you'd like a Genset i've been looking because mine has been neglected but still working. You can easily buy a used 5kw for under $2,500. I'm in FL so cannot do without AC but if I could i'd love to see mine go for the extra space in the engine room to work.

Golf cart batteries are great and what i've chosen to install but make sure you check the fluid levels regularly.

That 165 will push the boat @ around 8 knots @ 1500rpms and mine tops out @ 11 knots. I run the boat @ 7-8 knots to keep noise down, it's extremely efficient @ 1500, and keeps the wake down. With a fresh bottom job and a lighter boat i'd be interested in your top speed. I'd guess 13 knots.

For purposes of haulout or just general knowledge the boat is advertised @ around 16,000lbs BUT i'm not sure how they got to this number because in my research of quite a few MK1's that have been weighed they come in between 20,000-23,000lbs.

Take care of the front hatch over the bedroom. Not only are they prone to leak but more importantly they are impossible to find and if you do they cost big money. Mine is shot and i'm honestly thinking about adding fiberglass to make the opening smaller/standard size. Similar story for the windows and sliding door.

While the boat is hauled out consider fairing the keel ahead of the prop. The info is in the thread posted below and the results are amazing for not much work. http://www.trawlerforum.com/forums/s6/perkins-t6-354-best-practice-22543.html
