For your interest, I am planning to be at Marina Willsboro Bay Marina shipyard to perform scheduled maintenance of REAL MOUNTIE.

My US Cellular phone 518-570-5259 is presently desactivated until my return in USA.

We are getting the boat ready for our cruise on the Erie canal trip.

The Erie Canal stretches approximately 279 NM (321.1 SM or 516.7 KM) from lock #E-2 in Waterford, NY to lock #E-35 in Lockport, NY. From lock #E-35 on to the junction with the Niagara River is an additional 15 NM (17.3 SM or 27.8 KM), then 12 NM (13.8 SM or 22.2 KM) to the Black Rock Lock and finally 4 NM (4.6 SM or 7.4 KM) to Buffalo, NY.

This is a total distance of 310 NM (356.7 SM or 574.1 KM) from the Hudson River to Lake Erie

We will be anchored either in Willsboro Bay, NY and/or Shelburne Bay, VT until our departure sometime in June or earlier.

Follow us on Facebook!!! https://www.facebook.com/real.mountie

"If you are thinking about a special boat to travel in or whatever you want....that has it all...

This is the one! You owe it to yourself to check this one out!"

What an incredible "one of a kind" condition loved and exquisitely cared for vessel it is!

If you have gone to look at boats and seen how "tired" they are, you can only imagine what was not cared or that you don't see!

REAL MOUNTIE is that special boat you have been looking for.

This boat will choose YOU if you are the right new owners as it did for the last 5 owners since 1986.

Ready for the Great Lakes, Great Loop, Bahamas, Coastal and In-land waterways, LIVEABOARD as the Draft is 3 feet 6 inches.

Great retirement alternative as a Boataminium or Cottage on the water with different beautiful sceneries!

There is a very nostalgic look to this design. This boat is live-aboard friendly with its layout for those who appreciate certain comforts on a vessel which has a walk-around main deck for safety.

Dave and Bobbi went to visit "PAPILLON" and made arrangements to see her on January 4th 2016 with an eye towards having a Pilgrim 40 down south and a Pilgrim 40 up north!

You can follow them and also read interesting comments on their blog: https://pilgrimliberty.wordpress.com...age/#like-2116.

I have great admiration and respect for Dave and Bobbi, I consider them as a reference as they know the inside and out of a Pilgrim 40.
Hello Monte, I missed seeing this subject thread, but then I was off of the boat subject and doing work on a my 'land based vessel' in St Augustine.

I saw this quote about a vessel in both locations and it reminded me of another Canadian fellow who kept one of his vessels down in Cuba for a number of years. I met him back in late 1998-99 when I was down cruising Cuba for a month on a friend's newly built sailing catamaran.

He owned a powerboat that he would have launched and docked in Marina Hemingway while he visited for several months at a time. When he went back to Canada he would have the vessel hauled and stored. basically he utilized the vessel as his own floating condo for his visits.

Not a bad thought even now with the normalization of relations with the USA. A lot of the places to stay in Cuba are rather limited and 'run-down'. might be nice to have your own floating cottage.

If I remember correctly the yard stowage bills and maintenance labor charges were all very reasonable. Of course this may change with time now with a bigger USA presence.

Hello Brian!
Nice to hear from You and I hope you and the admiral are well.

I want to thank You for your thought as it could be a convenient option to consider in having a floating condo in Cuba.

This idea definitely would be a solution for the cruising permit limitations.

All the best and kindest regards! Normand

I thought it was a pretty neat idea. I even entertained the idea of taking an old wooden yacht-fisherman down to be refurbished in that cheap labor market. (and it was rumored that Hemingway had fished off her one day during his life)

I have to make a correction, Papillon was not trucked to NYC, in fact she just met LIBERTY at the Dismal Swamp Welcome Center.

They are rafted up together for the night! What a memorable moment!

I arrived on the boat at Willsboro Bay Marina on April 26 late p.m., and I reinstalled the Webasto DBW 2010 diesel heater as I had it checked by the Webasto dealer last fall.

I had the Net10 Cellular phone reactivated 518-570-5259 with voice mail, as the signal is weak in the Adirondaks.

I will start the maintenance schedule in May and will prepare for the Erie canal trip stating middle of June, I will stay anchored cruise around Lake Champlain .

I will be available for appointments and will answer any questions as needed.

There is one Pilgrim 40 listed on : http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1984...s#.VyG6taMeSko

Kind regards,

Dear Boatpoker,

What is the meaning of Life, as in Python's final film: "Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations". Pilgrims are beautiful boats.

Kind regards, Normand

Quality and simplicity of design and materials are timeless!

My perspective: Simply put, quality and simplicity of design and materials are timeless if the caretaker holds up his end of the deal. Care is likely more about discipline than money though plenty of both are involved.

While I do not hold credentials as a long time big boater, I have owned and operated significant fleets of equipment on land and my experience there has been reflected on water so far and is also reflected in my choice of the two large boats I have purchased. Robust quality of build materials and design in the original build stands the test of time and use consistently.

I run some very modern, very complex, and very expensive equipment with lots of electronics and no linkages and it is fun to run and impressive when it does.

Often, it is not as long on reliability and longevity as some of the late 70s and eighties Caterpillar construction equipment that has logged over 25000 hours in some cases with original frame, block, and much of the auxiliaries.

With the way that the vast majority of us boat, I think there is almost no risk of "using up" a high quality boat if we take decent care of it no matter how old it is.

Some of the modern marvels, perhaps not so much in my view. Though I may not feel that good about it, I expect I could "afford" either.

I expect both of the thirty year old boats that I own to outlive what remains of my boating years and though I won't give a care about it when my body temperature makes its final descent, my guess is they will still be worth what they are now if I do my part in the meantime.

Some parts of boats are 'consumable'. That is as true of new boats as it is of old boats. The more of this 'stuff' that you have, the more you need to work on or replace.

You may get a honeymoon with a new boat but the consumption is still occurring and the hourly or daily cost is the same. UnQuote

I agree with Mr Klee Wyck's perspective to a complete extent!

Waste cost more than QUALITY!

Spring schedules maintenance is going well.

I changed the Port side 58 gallons water tank and inspected the 58 gallons holding tank. The weather is getting better as the cold days should be gone.

Preparing the boat for the Erie Canal expedition...

As of May 2016: Our cell phone number will be 518-524-7327

Deep Thought, the computer that was created by the pan-dimensional, hyper-intelligent species of beings (whose three-dimensional protrusions into our universe are ordinary white mice) to come up with the Answer to The Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.

When, after seven and a half million years of calculation, the answer finally turns out to be 42.

Deep Thought admonishes Loonquawl and Phouchg (the receivers of the Ultimate Answer) that :

"[he] checked it very thoroughly, and that quite definitely is the answer.

I think the problem, to be quite honest with you is that you've never actually known what the question was."!!!!!

"So once you do know what the question actually is, you'll know what the answer means." said Deep Thought!!!!

Maintenance schedule is almost done. New port side water tank installed.

Inspected the 58 gallon holding tank (aluminium 9 year old) in perfect condition. I added neoprene spacers in order to prevent poultice corrosion. Simple task to do to prevent headaches.

Bright work is finished (I love that Bristol Traditional Amber) urethane coatings to ensure the finest most long-lasting coating available. Bristol Finish has a longstanding reputation as the preferred finish for both new wood preservation and historical restoration.

Having on visitor who will come to see the boat on the hard this Saturday, he was supposed to come to visit the boat when we would reach Tonawanda... as it would be a shorter drive. His schedule does not permit him to do so.

I made an exception in order for him to see the boat. As he is driving 9 hours straight, just to see the boat, I understand that his interest as I took a year and a half to find the right Pilgrim 40.

It will give me a day off as I have to conduct mechanical maintenance and lubrification.

Once REAL MOUNTIE is launched, I have a couple from New-Jersey that a already familiar with the Pilgrim 40, they will come visit her while anchored in Willsboro, Bay days before our departure to the Erie Canal.

I wonder how that product differs from a wonderful varnish I used years ago called "Bristol Fashion" ? It was not a total urethane, but a mixture of some sort.

It differed from the all urethane clear spray that was be touted by Awlgrip at the time. I had used some of this, and was very dissatisfied with its bonding to the wood substrait.

The Bristol Fashion held up a lot better, and bonded much better. Plus you could do serveral coatings without sanding between each application.
