Tohatsu hp 9.9 two cycle

For those who have been reading the current thread on dinghy motors and want a trouble free two stroke, I have a 2000 Tohatsu 9.9 hp for sale for $750.

This engine is one of the lightest 9.9s ever made. Strong, high torque two cycle. Runs fine on ethanol gas as long as you run the carb dry after each use.

It has three props so you can pick the one you need for your application: a 6.5, 7.5 and 8.5 (presume these are inches of pitch). Also have a Doel Fin that improves planning with heavy loads. I can plane three people on a 9' RIB with the medium prop and the fin.

PM me if interested. Located in Oriental, NC but can ship anywhere.

I'm assuming it is a short shaft?

I'll vouch for those motors. I've got the 8hp version which is nearly identical, yr 2003. It is by far the best running little two stroke I've had. And I've had a bunch. If I didn't have my 8 I'd jump on Dave's 9.9.

Someone needs to grab this one.

They don't make them any more.

Yes, it is a short shaft which works fine for everything except on some sailboats.

Thanks for the plug, Ski. I didn't solicit that, guys, really!!

But he is right, if you want a two stroke, this is one of the last made and a good one. It weighs about 75 lbs. Most 4 strokes are 90+ lbs.

The local Tohatsu/Nissan dealer refers to these little gems as 'gold'. He says they are rarely in for service problems and the weight to power ratio is pretty amazing.

I have 2 of the 9.8hp 2-stroke units both vintage 2003. I am still using the first bought new with no problems to date, not even an impeller change. The 2nd is waiting in reserve, but it may outlast me.

My typical use is 2 months during the summer in salt water. At the end of the cruising season, just run it in fresh water to rinse it out and run it out of fuel. Stores on its side and fires right up the next year.

It makes my AB 8.5 RIB nearly fly.

Mine weigh in at just under 60lbs., so easy to cart about.
